Hi XingHui, it depends on how the dial is laid out and the overall design of the watch

plays an impt part as well. Imagine Lange one without the big date window, it just would not be a Lange one. But for the JLC master moon, the dial date display is a good design as there are 2 windows for the day and month and another window below for the ...

I fully consent, however ...

I find the window date - particularly if a big date or magnified by a lens - much more legible. But, as you said, Pat: sometimes the dial design requires a hand rather than a window to become harmonic. Best regards, anaesdoc...

I would agree

This is my best owned example of a watch that does it well. It's only 30 years old....

Lovely vintage. Have been trying hard to get one of those. I am intrigued at how people

would react when they see "Die" on the watch esp in the english speaking only regions. cheers PAt

Reminds me of a US fast food chain that sold hot dogs

Was called Der Weinerschnitzel, when I understand it should have been Die Weinerschnitzel. You can guess why the marketing people thought it was a bad idea to be grammatically correct to US customers On the other side of having non-English dates, a friend...

Or how about...

LeCar for the Renault that was sold in the US many years ago. C'est la voiture! Oh, well.... =:^{o>

Yes, but Renault is "masculin'

 By: mrsnak : September 27th, 2010-19:53
So one could could either way. BTW, my favorite personalized California license plate of all time was on a very beat up LeCar I saw here in L.A. a few years ago: "LEMERDE" For our overseas friends the LeCar was the R5

LOL, mrsnak ...

In correct French, this is " LA MERDE ", and we say UNE Renault. As voiture is always feminine, in french. Best, Nicolas

Thanks for the pictorial support!

Window display as dial ( hands ) display is melancholic...

By: COUNT DE MONET : September 25th, 2010-02:35
The hands dial / hands display showes the months and days gone by, a fact that I am not really sure about wheter I like it or not. The window display is clear and just informative. Having said that: to choose between the PP 5146 and PP 5396 is still a ver...

I absolutely hate date windows

 By: Geo : September 25th, 2010-08:48
And usually when a watch has a date and it's prominent, I do not buy it. I dislike so much these square cut outs in the dial. Sometimes they replace the 3 or 6 and quite often they have a different font than the numbers used on the dial. Just horrible and...

both windows and dials depending on the layout...

 By: KC74 : September 25th, 2010-09:00
Triple date, annual calendar or perpetual can look very good on windows and subdials....depending on layout...imagine PP offers perpetual date in windows form instead of subdials....

Window for me.

 By: ling5hk : September 25th, 2010-09:27
In general, it is not only easier to read, the dial looks much cleaner subject to clever lay out of the windows on the dial. Regards Ling

depends

 By: donizetti : September 25th, 2010-12:29
but in general I have to say I like a date less and less, compared when I started to get sucked into the watch thing when I felt it was a must. As I get older I do think windows have the legibitilty advantage especially in a big date form. Examples where ...

Ref 6000

Hi Ref 6000 for me - very nice black dial with pointer date. Have looked at them, but they're a tad out my budget at the mo. Never say never though Cheers JML

Pointer dates!

 By: jml_watches : September 25th, 2010-15:29
Hi Have a weakness for pointer dates - the JLC Master Moon has already been mentioned. There is also the Mater date without the moonphase - also great, but lacks the red lettering of day and month in a steel MM. Probably a bit more subtle JLC MM - very el...

I am getting this obsession as well...

 By: jporos : September 26th, 2010-16:49
I thought that I would like a pointer date, and that notion was confirmed when I acquired this Ventura. Pointer dates are easy to read (because one can interpolate the date) and through their slow, circular motion around the dial, give one a larger sense ...
