British Shop Owner Writes Open Letter to Thief Who Stole a Watch From Her Store

 By: pingtsai : February 20th, 2015-00:56
One of our followers on Social Media shared this letter with us which was posted on an Aberdeen, UK shop's Facebook page yesterday. It is addressed to the thief who stole a Triwa Lansen Chrono brand watch which is worth around 230. The brand is not sold ...

Naive, yes, but lovely letter. I can'tb promise I will do the same with my burglars. ;)

I am more into the impalement way... Best, Vlad.

Naturally the letter is naive!

From the name (and face) I understood immediately that the lady is a Finn. We do not know much about the bad world around... Best, Kari

You will hunt them down...

And you smell blood... Vlad style lol! Cheers Robin

Ruffling on behalf a lawyer....

 By: ninolitaliano : February 20th, 2015-10:01
where go we? If we begin by killing the customers.....

Ruffling or Rifling? :)

 By: amanico : February 20th, 2015-10:31

Agreed, Nico: we should all apply the lawyers' creed...

"Do unto others before they do unto you!" ;-) Cheers, pplater.

I believe in goodness and hope

So I hope the thief will return the watch. :) I believe in miracles. Let's see! :)) Thanks for sharing Ping Cheers Robin

Robin, I understand the Lady.

I have lost my wallet three times in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Two times the person who found it first called me and then dropped the wallet to my home. Nothing was taken. Once the founder called me and said that I can pick it from him or then he ...

I've never been to Finland...

 By: patrick_y : February 24th, 2015-21:03
I've never been to FInland, but that's a nice story Kari. In Tokyo, I feel very safe, and people seem to be very trustworthy. If I had lost my wallet in Tokyo, I bet that there would be a hope it was turned into the authorities.

I agree what you say about Tokyo

 By: dr.kol : February 25th, 2015-01:49
I have been there many times - last time was a one week shopping trip with my teenager daughter. When she went shopping (alone) and it stated to rain, many local gentlemen offered her their umbrella. Where else such things could happen? People were ready ...

There's something special about Japan...

 By: patrick_y : February 27th, 2015-00:04
On the surface, Japan is almost a utopian society. Of course, when you dig deeper, you'll see a lot of problems that are common with any other country in the world. But Japan is a special place. And I like it! I liked it just for the food, but I love it f...

Indeed, she's crazy about Japanese youth culture.

 By: dr.kol : February 27th, 2015-00:24
She also enjoyed shopping and food. While she was doing her things, I visited watch shops and even bought one Rolex. Normally I have been running from one meeting to another but this time I just relaxed and enjoyed. I guess Japan would make a wonderful ho...

The best food in the world...

 By: patrick_y : February 27th, 2015-00:28
In my experience, the best food in the world is from Japan. I find the food in Japan to be consistently good, and very reasonably priced compared to the USA. $10 lunches in Tokyo office buildings are nutritionally complete, high quality, and well prepared...

The second best food in the world!

 By: dr.kol : February 27th, 2015-01:59
The best is in Lapland and in the Atlantic coast in northern Norway. Fresh fish, king crab, snow grouse, reindeer, moose, other game, fresh berries, huge variety of wild mushrooms. The nature is unspoiled and the food is tasting natural. But Japanese food...

Haven't been...

 By: patrick_y : February 27th, 2015-10:09
But now you've got my mouth watering... Moose and reindeer... I might've had reindeer before on a flight. I do like venison.

I'm a hunter

 By: dr.kol : February 27th, 2015-10:18
and I have tasted most of the game; bear, elephant, buffalo, European game, even lion and leopard. I think that the best venison in the world is eland, especially when fillet is made in open fire. The taste plus the camp fire atmosphere is a unbeatable co...

I didn't know...

 By: patrick_y : February 27th, 2015-10:32
Hmm, that's very interesting. I can't imagine the intimacy one must have with eating food they've found and hunted themselves. Are lions and leopards tasty?

Leopard is tasting nearly like chicken

 By: dr.kol : February 27th, 2015-12:39
but I must admit that I did not enjoy eating the same. Lion I had some difficulties to swallow. The point is that in Africa the native people or at least some tribes appreciate cats as food a lot. Furthermore, some tribes believe that they can get some of...

A true hunter...

 By: patrick_y : February 27th, 2015-16:37
You're more than a recreational hunter; the typical British Banker who stalks a deer for a few hours and kills it. Or one of those vacation hunters who go to Texas to lands stocked with beautiful animals specifically to be hunted by individuals who want a...

I still have some 60 firearms but

 By: dr.kol : February 27th, 2015-22:58
during the last 6 years I have shot only one shot. I took my girlfriend (nowadays wife) to Africa and took a very nice bushbuck for pot. She loved the venison. I have nothing against hunting when it's serving the nature conservation and in the spirit "fai...

Makes sense...

The Cape Buffalo has speed, can be very aggressive, and very well equipped to attack humans. I've never hunted, but I would definitely fear all of the African Big 5 game (possibly not so much the leopard). The Most Dangerous Game (referencing the short) w...

Hunting Big Five is a way to learn to know yourself better.

 By: dr.kol : March 2nd, 2015-15:03
I had a close call with Cape Buffalo if 2 meters can be called close. For the beast it took some 2 seconds to run from 18 meters and he had only one goal. In such a situation there are three alternatives: - turn and run - make the pants dirty and hope tha...

That's a lot of excitement...

 By: patrick_y : March 2nd, 2015-15:07
Does your current wife support your hunting of the Big 5? I presume rhinos are now illegal to hunt due to preservation? Or is it still possible? I suppose if it's illegal, it's probably still possible if one is connected with the right government official...

There are a lot of misunderstandings.

 By: dr.kol : March 2nd, 2015-15:53
First of all, I have done my Big Five and I do not need to go for those anymore. My wife is absolutely okay with my hunting. She knows that I can shoot (at least a little bit). The best way of protecting rhinos is to hunt them in strictly limited amounts ...

I love this quote...

 By: patrick_y : March 2nd, 2015-18:23
" Rhino hunting is nothing very special. Many people say in Africa that you hunt elephant with your feet, lion & Mr. Spots with your brains, buffalo with your guts and rhino with your wallet." Thank you for that honest assessment. Bears are legal to h...

Thanks for a nice discussion.

There is a very big difference between Ursus Arctos and Ursus Americanos - the grizzly and the black bear. I have been a couple of times in the Rocky Mountains on the Canadian side and I always love to watch in the spring time the black bear "mamas" with ...

Thank you Kari!

I'm learning a lot about a world that I'm not very familiar with.

Even if it is 'naive'...

...good on her for putting it out there. The least we can do as members of this most respected watch forum, is to keep an eye out for the piece in our virtual and actual travels, even if it's not a 'haute horlogerie' brand and maybe wouldn't usually be on...

Rob, you could also..

 By: pplater : February 21st, 2015-18:58
...buy a few pairs of those cashmere socks from Tytti(?!?) as a sign of solidarity! :-) Cheers, pplater.

Hahahaha

 By: RobCH : February 24th, 2015-01:49
...mate, I would be running in there to see little Tittilie (!) and buy some socks, if I was in the same town...or country at least. (By the way, I'm not sure a Scottish lady would be impressed with the OP calling her British !) ;-)
