Excursion with ORIS & Nico Rosburg

22 September 2009

This year event for ORIS with the Williams' driver - Nico Rosburg was more interesting instead of the typical meet & greet.
The ORIS Team organised Nico Rosburg to experience a bit of the Asian culture (coincidentally, coming Mooncake festival)
before meeting some customers of two retailers and then closed with an evening cocktail.

Sit back and enjoy the pics of this two and half hours of virtual tour with Nico Rosburg ....

3:30pm ... first stop, the Peranakan Museum at 39 Armenian Street.

This 4,005sqm Museum houses the world's finest and most comprehensive collection of Peranakan artefacts presenting a
Southeast Asian-wide view of Peranakan culture.

For more information about Peranakan, please click : www.peranakanmuseum.sg

The exterior of the Peranakan Museum

Upon entering the Museum, the waiting area and the information & ticketing counter ...

One of the antique bench at the waiting area

An example of marquetry craft on the bench ...

3 floors of exhibits featuring  themes of : the elaborate 12-day Peranakan wedding, the role of the Nonyas, prominent Peranakans in Singapore's history, as well as one of the favourite past times of Singaporeans - food and feasting and a glimpse of how modern-day Peranakans have evolved with their culture.

4:15pm, Nico arrived with Paul Phua, General Manager of ORIS Singapore & Malaysia.

Press members swarmed around Nico to film and photograph Nico.

A view at a higher vantage position ...

After that, the Museum Guide led Nico to tour the Museum... starting on first floor .....

Walking up the stairs ...

Guide explaining to Nico & Paul ...

A glimpse of the ORIS on Nico's wrist ...

An artefact ...

Peranakan Decoration ...

A back shot since we have seen many front pics smile

Video crew and photographers on both wings ...

An example of a dinner table-setting of Peranakan ...

The bench from second floor ...

After the tour, an interview with a local sports channel ....

Overheard them chatting about big Renault scandal, which Renault fixed the race last year costing Nico the win (he came 2nd).

Paul with an executive of the Williams team ...

Tour ended, and back to the ground floor ...

Before Nico left the Museum, a pic with him on the antique bench.

Some visitors also asked Nico for autographs ....

About 5pm, we left the Museum for the next exciting activity for Nico Rosburg ...

We jumped into our cars, and dashed off to Fairmont Hotel ....

and proceeded to Sze Chuan Court Restaurant.

Nico arrived several minutes after us with Paul Phua and the General Manager of Fairmont Hotel.

5:20pm, Part 2 - Nico Rosburg making Mooncakes!!

Tools and ingredients for the mooncake making, neatly arranged.

After a short greeting from Nico to fans & press members, Chef Mandy took over and explained the procedures to make
a mooncake.
Nico watched as Chef Mandy demonstrated the first piece. And then Nico's turn for the hands-on ...

I think  it is no issue for a driver who could maneuver a highly sophicated steering-wheel at high speed.

Cameras clicking away to capture the rare moment of Nico's hands-on session ....

He made his maiden mooncake with ease.  Very methodical, literally memorised the steps with ease.
He ate it too!

That's not the end of the Part 2...

Nico has to pass on his skills to our local newscaster.  He explained clearly the steps, and she completed hers too.

The cool-guy Nico, suddenly took over the mic and the role of the newscaster.

He asked the questions instead and the newscaster has to answer smile

To ensure it was not a fluke, Nico has to 'teach' another newscaster from another channel ...

" No problem .... it is easy!"

" Just take the dough and roll it into a ball, and stuff the filling in and press into the mold..."

Voila!

Racer turned newsman...asking questions instead  smile

After that, he was asked a few questions, and I could only remembered  a couple of the answers provided by Nico....

1) He owns an Audi RS6 for offtrack driving...

and

2) What will he normally do just before a race?  Some said calming moment with music....
His answer, he plays football to warm up!

A pic of Nico & Paul Phua for the press and customers of Dickson Watch.

Taking a short break with Kelvin Lim, General Manager for Dickson Watch.

After that some pics with Dickson's customers, fans and even the restaurant staff...

He had a short conversation with a kid (who came with his mom)...asking him if he  is going to be professional golfer
when he grows older (he was wearing a Callaway Golf shirt).

This is Nico Rosburg Mooncakes!

Autographed !

The content ....ORIS Mooncakes with various flavours.

A pic of Nico...back to his cool look.

6:10 pm Proceed to ground floor, Cortina Watch to meet and greet with some customers of Cortina who are
also ardent F1 fanatics...

Crowd formed at the entrance ....

Shop was jam-packed!

Had a quiz session and winners received prizes from Nico.

After that photo session ....

Jeremy Lim, Regional General Manager of Cortina Watch

Raymond Lim, Executive Director of Cortina with Nico

After that is the frenzy autograph session ...

A toast from Jeremy Lim with Paul Phua...

Next Nico to visit the ORIS exhibition put up by Cortina Watch just outside the shop ...

Look at the crowd...

Some pics of the Exhibition still ongoing for another week at Cortina Raffles City Shopping Centre ...

The huge model ...

Watches displayed ....

After that, Nico proceeded to the cocktail event at another drinking hole ....so no pics ...thirsty smile

Thanks to ORIS for the invite.

Those mooncakes look super tasty! As you seem very familiar with the brand, which marques do you see Oris in direct competition with, in your opinion. Are they playing in the same sandbox as Longines? Or Omega? I don't know much about the brand. Their col...

Hi Daos I think ORIS is in the tool-watch playfield with verticals like Land, Sea and Air. Yes they've the Culture pillar too. However their definition is more specific, motor-sports for land and Diving for Sea (not sailing). So it is the same with any br...

Thanks, Kong! :-) [nt]

both the 2008 Race and the 2009 Qualifying..... Lewis Hamilton "gifted" with pole position because Barrichello's crash stopped play for everyone else. :-( MTF

Thanks Kong for the photos.

Nico made a mistake after the pit stop. What a waste? Sometime, too many events for the driver before the race is tiring. Regards Ling

Great post!
