One of the most interesting watches at Basel: Seiko Credor Torque Saving movement

Apr 05, 2008,23:28 PM

The information on this watch is only in Japanese so this is what I can gather.

The movement in this watch has a "torque saving system" that improves the power reserve of the watch while maintaining its timekeeping. The first 35 hours (approximately) of the mainspring uses only about 30% of the torque. Ordinarily the handwound Spring Drive calibre 7R88 used in this model has a power reserve of 48 hours, but with the modifications it rises to 60 hours.

The movement is hand finished and assembled, containing 44 jewels, with an accuracy of +/- 15 seconds a month. Finishing is not only decorative, but functional as well like the polishing of the inside of the barrel, which contributes to the improved power reserve. Diameter of the watch is 35mm and 9.7mm high. Case is 950 platinum. Sapphire glass is AR coated.

The dial for this model is porcelain, made by the famous Noritake company of Japan renowned for their ceramic wares.

Sale of this watch starts in August 2008 and only 5 pieces will be made each year. The retail price is JPY5,775,000 or about USD56,800.
