Longines Legend Diver

Jun 07, 2009,14:41 PM

This was the first time I ever bought a watch before I saw it in the metal, but acording to Swatch Canada only three were delivered to Canada so my options were limited. Our friend Nicolas' review really says all you need to know about this beauty. According to my sources, Longines quickly stopped production of this beautiful 1960's diver remake in favor of the new edition with the date funcion. Although the new edition also looks great, i think the perfect symmetry of the dial is compromised IMHO. The watch is 42 mm x 13.55 mm, which is large, but not overwhelming for my average size wrist. The vintage look and beautiful, black, sleek and symmetrical dial make this watch suitable for busineess attire or the beach IMHO. A versatile watch indeed smile I can honestly say I have divers 3x and5x as expensive and they don't bring the same joy as this beautiful Longines when it sits on my wrist. I know many would have preferred the original domed plexy, but I much prefer the sapphire crystal. Perhaps I'm clumsy and have scratched my plexy watches in the past smile

If Longines could have provided a more exclusive movement than the 2824-2  (something like they did with their Master Retrograde) and housed it in a titanium case, then perhaps they would have made a perfect diver, but that's just my personal taste. Hey, and at double the cost of the current model it would still be a beautiful watch at great value!

The no-date version in stainless steel is my favorite as well! I've had mine for several months now, and it keeps great time, sits comfortably on the wrist, and makes the transition from the office to jeans & tees with great aplomb. Enjoy your new Legend ...

The Longines Diver is simply a HIT. And a Bargain, too. As for the movement, I know some watches which house an !ETA and 3 times more expensive than this Longines, without bringing a stronger pleasure, IMO. But, like you, I regret that Longines lost their...

Félicitations !

 By: monochrome : June 8th, 2009-15:14
Hahaha... i don't have any secret favorite pieces. I make no secret of my admiration for certain independent watchmakers like Sarpaneva, Speake-Marin and Urwerk. On the other hand i must admit that this re-issue of a vintage super compressor really does i...

Your passion astounds me, but your photographs and temptations of other beautiful pieces scare me and my wallet

On this topic, it won't be very dangerous, emcquillan ..

Legend looks great on your wrist, check out one of the pic below, might be a little to big for me . Can't wait for the date Version, date dial does not take away the beauty and balance IMHO plus it would be more practical for every day use. Legend in the ...

you are such a tease....!! I have had to speak to my local Longines dealer now (the only one in the area) who have just spoken to Longines and both versions are still available from them (both on back order and 4-6 weeks though)and yes both are a bargain ...

With or without date, Andy?

 By: amanico : June 9th, 2009-08:50
Personaly, I prefer without, as it adds somes strength and purity to the dial, IMO. Even if the date is also a beautiful Longines diver! To each his own, and I can also understand that for some people, the date is an important " plus ". Best, Nicolas. PS:...

I was surprised too...

 By: Andy : June 9th, 2009-09:24
but that's from the horses mouth and I was given definate prices for both versions too from Longines. Any chance you could bring yours to London so I can see one first..?? They can't get both in to view and would also need a deposit to order one in. Looki...

No problemo, my friend!
