My Purchase for March 2009

For March I chose the Alba AAAA101, designed by Mr Riki Watanabe, a famous designer from Japan.

In March the notion of owing a Nomos Tangante was merely a pipe dream and when I saw this watch, I thought it would be a good substitute for the Nomos. I would go on to buy the Nomos Club but am still dreaming of getting the Tangante.

This watch is 38mm wide and houses a Seiko movement. From what I've read it houses a Seiko mechanical 7S-based movement. At 38mm it's a fairly small watch (by today's standards) but since the bezel is thin, it looks larger than its size.

Despite its size, it's not a slim watch.

I really like it's clean dial and simple indexes. It's really legible (a plus for my failing eyesight). To me the hands are cool. I believe that the minute hand is exactly the size of the cut out in the hour hand, at least to my naked eye it looks that way. I also liked that the hands are designed to circle the different leveled concentric circles on the dial.

The dial do come in black and brown and I believe there was at one time a limited edition but I cannot recall the dial colour for that.

It has a very clean look, and as you said, "very legible" piece, with large hour markers and thick minute and hour hands. The movement is a reliable workhorse for sure. I particularly like the suede underside of the leather strap. Interesting piece. thank...

Congrats!

The watch has a friendly, easy-to-read dial. I always enjoy that in a timepiece. So, September has just begun. Have you made your purchase for this month yet? Cheers, Daos

Compact and thick, with a starkly austere dial design - this watch . . .

. . . exudes a clear-cut presence. The cut-out in the hours hand seems half the size of the minute hand, though . . . perhaps you were referring to the indices? Cordially, Art
