BaselWorld 2014 - Breva

Breva launched this year at BaselWorld its second watch model, the Génie 2.  This watch is also a precision altimeter.  As with their first watch launched last year the Génie 1 which is a watch that uses the barimetric pressure to predict the weather, the Génie 2 was developed for Breva by Jean-François Mojon (Chronode).

The Genie 2 has 3 crowns, the first for winding and setting the timekeeping movement.  The second is to adjust the calibration of the altimeter.  The third crown seals or unseals the interiour of the movement to the atmosphereic pressure, effectively activating or disactivating the altimeter function.  To assure that the movement is not degraded by moisture entering there is a teflon membrane to filter out any moisture that may be in the air.  A dial indication shows if the movement is sealed or not.  The movement is available in two version for measuring the altitude in feet or in meters.
