The Most Iconic Chronograph of All Time?

 By: ZoneTecnico : March 21st, 2015-01:08
Many may have forgotten about this fact but it was the first timepiece worn on the moon. And probably the very event that propelled it to horological stardom. Several brands, namely Breitling, Rolex, Hamilton, and Longines-Wittnauer, were also in the bid ...

A proper diver's watch, the Planet Ocean. Thanks for sharing!

slight error in your piece...

I think you'll find there is only one colour option....a white dial.....the darker image is merely indicating the parts that are luminous

Oh you are right!

Shoot! Can't edit now though! Thanks for pointing out the error anyway

Very interesting read...

Thank you for sharing your review. Probably arguable that it's the most iconic chronograph but certainly one of the most iconic. Thanks again!

It was my pleasure

I can think of a few other iconic chronographs but the Speedmaster is really something. Thanks for reading. Appreciate it!

Well, I am not a Speedmaster fan, but I wanted to welcome you, and to say thank you...

Because even if I am not in love with the model, I am always deeply appreciating a well written post, and yours is remarkable. A strong first one! Looking forward to reading more from you, Best, Nicolas

Wow thanks for the compliment

Welcome here! :) Yes, searching for a Speedmaster to complete the Trilogy. But hoping to find a earlier version. Looking forward to read more from you! Best Blomman

Thanks!

Hi blomman, Appreciate the encouragement. Trilogy you say? Speedmaster, Daytona, Monaco? Earlier than the 145.012?! Wow all the best! Let me know if you get your hands on one. Will be tough thought but rewarding. Thanks once again! Best, ZoneTecnico

Yes and no ...

Omega overexposed the Speedmaster brand by producing so many models, trying to reach all tastes. Notice that today, when we say "Speedmaster" we must add several qualifiers. Of course, Omega is absolutely correct, after all they are here to make money. Th...

Interesting point of view

I kind of agree with you. It's usually about market share and that does dilute the name. But if you relate it to cars, the manufacturers are doing the same too. Say Bugatti Veyron. An icon. Yet Bugatti has released countless Limited Editions, etc. But it ...

The moonwatch thing yada yada yada

by now. I mean: come on! How long can you keep this story up. That being said. I'm getting one of these silver editions. Love it! And Snoopy? Predicting a revival. What's not to like about peanuts?

As long as it may

Well, one can't forget about history. But all the best for your purchase. Cheers!

Iconic, maybe. Nicest, certainly not for me

First of all thank you for your very nice post. Personnaly, i'd be tempted to look for the real star chronographs some 20 to 30 years before the "Moon watch" simply because this period of the 30-40's is the golden age of the manual chronograph, the birth ...

The Speedmaster is definitely not the only chronograph out there

We can go on for ages. And you are right to say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One man's trash may be another man's treasure. There are notable ones like you have mentioned, heuer; zodiac; breitling; Hamilton; IWC, etc Good luck on your find. ...

I'd

take Zodiac and IWC from your list is you are looking from iconic chronographs. Besides the many etablisseurs, of whom some are great, there are in fact very few chronograph specialists.

You have a point

What you say is true but I've a very soft spot for chronographs. So regardless of the watch, I may get it if the price is right. Cheers!
