A surprise visitor at the Baselworld AHCI booth

Apr 02, 2009,23:13 PM

But it's nothing to do with AHCI - nothing really to do with the independents either.

Still, when a watch like this one gets flashed before your eyes...

...really you can't be blamed for getting excited.

"Oh, this is the new Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Watch with Audemars Piguet Escapement!" I blurted, wondering
whether I had inadvertently let slip one too many "Audemars"...."I didn't know it was already available for sale!"

"It's not", came the patient reply.

"So how did you come by this piece, if I may ask?"

"Oh, I made it." The nonchalant reply was delivered with a playful grin.

For, Lo, it was indeed He. M. Fabrice Deschanel, Director and Manager of Audemars Piguet (Renaud et Papi) SA, had
popped by to show off the fruits of his labours to some of his old buddies.

So...what do you do when you've got your light tent assembled, your camera all nice and warmed up, and a hot hot hot piece
like this kind of falls into your hands?

Why, you take pictures of course.

Enjoy.

Cheers
Tony P

(NB - Beautiful though this watch is, it's still just a prototype, and it has been on M. Deschanel's wrist for some two years already. Imagine how spectacular the production pieces will look!)

I can't blame you -- I would've been excited to see this watch in person too! Thanks for sharing these pictures with us. I agree that the final production pieces will be stunning! Cheers, Daos

From all accounts the watch was in high demand when officially presented in January. You have given us a very close look at this gem which most of us will never ever see in person. Thanks!

What a treat!

Can't imagine that kind of a watch just dropping in on a photo session. Thanks again, Tony!

Honestly, I can't imagine a more compelling image . . .

. . . of the AP chronometer than the prototype you've just shared with us, Tony . . . cordially, Art

Awesome looking watch...

but at 46 mm it is way too big for a dress watch in my opinion.

Clean and absolutely stunning shots and the watch

Tony, Unexpected in-the-wild shots are always fun. Especially a rare bird like this. Thanks, MTF
