Villemont's Vltime- Is it ready for Prime Time? A review

 By: mkt33 : February 12th, 2008-06:29
About two years ago a new watch brand, Villemont, was first introduced on ThePuristS. This launch was a landmark event as it represented, for the first time, recognition from the watch industry that the internet community of collectors is an important gro...

It was a pleasure seeing that one in person. Thanks for bringing it along. Bill

More to this than meets the eye

Mike, Thanks for the detailed review of your experience. I confess to being a sceptic all those years ago when AlexG first presented the "new" brand. I did not even inspect them closely at the recent Starhill Gallery - Kuala Lumpur watchfest. Your report ...

Thanks for the review Mike!

It is not often one gets a chance to see this watch in person, so thanks for bringing it to NY! The display back looks great with the combination of the black gold plating and RG accents. Was disappointed at the lack of efficiency of the micro rotor as we...

I think this issue can be generalized to most if not all

micro rotor movements. There was a Lange automatic at the table that exhibited the same behavior and its owner stated that he could not keep it wound on the winder. I'd be interested to hear from a Patek, a Chopard, and a Dubuis owner about their experien...

Thank you for the review Mike. I had a Chopard 1.96 with same inefficiency

I was, and still remain one of the skeptists when it comes to Palladium. I am not surprised that Palladium cases are harder to make, but that is due to its own quirky characteristics. It doesn't change the fact that it is a cheaper base metal than gold an...

The goal is to broaden our horological view :-)

Hopefully this will encourage other enthusiasts to venture out of the mainstream, experiment, and report back to the community. I reconsidered my thoughts about winding inefficiency (thanks for your observations about the Chopard by the way). Perhaps it i...

I agree with the idea of broadening our view

Hi John, could you elaborate about 1.96 is inefficient?

 By: Kong : February 15th, 2008-06:34
From Mike's post, I understand that the Buren movement should be at least 50hrs Power Reserve but only achieved 26 hours. I'm just guessing, the winding could be efficient, but the storage (barrel mainspring) may not have the capacity. I hope your Cal 1.9...

Hi Kong, 1.96 inefficiency

Very insightful Mike

A good look at a brand I have not heard much about. I do agree with you, the cases and dials are well done and attractive, but the flaws you found in the movement would be a deal killer for me. If Villemont wants to become a real player at the CHF26,000 p...

Thanks for this tour...

and I appreciate the work that went into creating this brand (both intellectually and on the bench). That said, I also think that the small faults are unacceptable at this price. I have the feeling that much money is spent in the very elaborate case, the ...

Good to read that you have made a review on one of Villemont's model. Recently I bidded a Villemont Amundsen watch of Solar Naviation System model. Unfortunately, no user guide was included. Would like to ask if you or anyone knows how to use (or read) th...
