Yes, the NSX is a gorgeous looking thing. Equipped with a twin turbocharged engine, hybrid powertrain and torque vectoring, it is also very clever. However, at a base price of $150,000, it is not exactly affordable. Honda has hence unveiled a car that will excite the masses.

What you see here is the Civic hatchback concept. It may be labeled as a concept but this is pretty much how the production model will look like when it rolls out of the Swindon factory in the UK, albeit toned down a touch. Stunning, isn't it?

This concept has received a much needed makeover for the Civic, courtesy of a distinctive new design language. The car looks more focused, being wider, longer and lower. The aggressive front end is sculpted with sharp lines, large air intakes and a short overhang. And that gives the car a stronger presence.

One would notice the flowing body lines when looking at the side profile of the car. Which begins from the headlight over the pronounced front wheel arches, continuing along its side to the C-shaped taillights, where it meets the sweeping coupé-like roofline.

The car also gives the impression that it is leaning forward, always ready for action, thanks to the clever use of a character line at the lower section of the doors.

Lastly, the use of angular lines continues at the rear end, reemphasising the aggressive nature of the car. The rear spoiler integrates both taillights together. That, coupled with the sweptback profile add the finishing touches to its handsome looks.

Because the car looks so good, Honda has not revealed much about the powertrain of the car but promises its competitiveness.

Either way, the Civic hatchback concept looks like a very good platform which the next-generation Type-R can be built upon. A touring estate is also in the pipeline. Both expected to debut in 2018.
