for saying that the gold movement is "better" than the brass movement other than the fact that -- it's gold! I think FPJ's rationale for using gold, unless I've missed something, is an aesthetic one.

I have FPJs with both, so I'm agnostic about it. I do find the gold movements to be quite amazingly pretty, though.

I am new to FP Journe. Just came across someone selling the used Octa. Besides the difference in material, is there much difference between a gold and brass movement in the Octa range?

I heard many discussions about how FPJ brass movement watches are more collectible because they are rarer, vs. they were only a stop-gap and therefore not as collectible. Then there are discussions about how the brass is softer than the gold and will wear...

since no one seems to be responding here I go...... Brass movt is technically identical to gold in terms of specifications. FPJ has always wanted to do gold coz he thought it was better (ie more robust I think, but not sure) i dont know wht is more desira...
