Very well put Damien - I fully agree with your points

in particular with 1 and 2 since I change my straps frequently and did end up with scratches around the lugs ;-(

I would also add better QC - things like badly painted hands, bezel alignment on rotating bezels, flaws on the dial, in particular application of the Luminova and movements that have issues or are poorly regulated - I know that the latter 2 can happen during shipping, due to mishandling, but all the other points clearly could have been caught with better QC. I find this particularly unacceptable on timepieces that cost over $20k, but even if the watch is "only" $5K it shouldn't happen.

thanks for your post and cheers
Rupert

Some improvements I'd like to see

I know we wax lyrical about the finish and complications of multiple timepieces from various big brands and independents. But there are some improvements I wish they would make, which are pretty straightforward. Feel free to add to the list: 1. Spring bar...

Agreed, but don't hold your breath.

In politics, citizens respect a leader who does and asks them to do unreasonable things. It shows that he is strong. It is very important for the watch companies to show us that they are strong. The fact that we can be convinced to buy watches even with s...

i agree

although i like to point out where they do present us with what they create as it is without taking opinions in depth regarding some issues say a watch box or simpler strap changing mechanism , they treat us with the treat we all want in the form of say l...

Ya, see what you mean

it's better to be feared than loved so for the watch companies, it's better to be loathed than loved, to make us wait than be served! Dang, we should be on the sell side!

i fully agree and support you on point 4&5

call me lunatic but the lugs issue can be solved in my opinion IF the manufacturers came out with a plastic thingy to be placed on the lug, that's when a strap is being changed the thingy takes all the scratching. Faisal

They do...

...it's called Sticky Tape (Sellotape, Scotchtape, pressure-sensitive adhesive). If your service-person isn't doing something to protect the lugs when changing straps...I'd be pretty concerned.

well you can put

the tape on after but what about when you're removing it? I mean the regular lugs, not the ROOs or Pannies.

If it's a particularly fiddly

or tight strap-to-lug gap, I usually tape as deeply into the lug as I can, as close to the springbar hole as possible, as well as taping the end of the removal tool. Minimising metal to metal contact.

The other way

Faisal is to design a strap tool with rounded ends. That shouldn't be too hard when we have ceramic ball bearings and silicium escapements.

Rupert. My personal experiences - (1) a watch that came wrapped in factory plastic, I put it on the winder and a few months later, the dang thing just stopped. It went back for about 2-3 months and has been working well since (2) Didn't notice it but many...

Nice post!

It's kind of ironic the accuracy of your comments combined with how low our expectations that things will change. We can only hope.

Perhaps the number of responses

reflect the interest in this. I bet I'll get more responses from a wrist shot!

I agree with the points you raise....

Number three resonates with me the most. I typically look for watches on bracelets with some sort of micro adjustment feature. Unfortunately, not all companies offer it. GO offers a unique micro adjustment mechanism on its bracelets. Some companies offer ...

Dave, I wish the 'technology'

can be applied to strap buckles as well. Hey let's be democratic, it's not just the bracelet guys who need the adjustments!

Yes, I agree micro adjustment technology is needed for those who prefer straps as well

I didn't mean to discriminate against the leather strap wearers out there. Dave
