How do you protect your precious watch?

 By: Maverik : April 14th, 2009-09:14
Hi all! Since two weeks I'm the proud owner of a Jaeger leCoultre Reverso Grande GMT, and grande it is. I absolutly love it. Now the following questions came to my mind. How you all of you protect your precious watches? Say, you are at the office to go to...

Speak to your dealer

 By: Jester : April 14th, 2009-09:56
and get them to give you a pouch or carrying case or something to put your watch in, then place the pouch/carrying case in your locker, perhaps within your gym bag. That's what I do when I go to gym.

Cases

 By: aaronm : April 14th, 2009-10:23
I've found that GO gives you a little sipper case if you have a watch services that works very well. It is very close in design to a hard glasses case, so that would probably work. I also have some zippered cases that they sell for folding knives that wor...

Easiest thing is to just use one of those clear plastic protective wrappers

 By: AnthonyTsai : April 14th, 2009-10:58
to wrap around the watch case and then put your watch in your gym bag in the gym locker. Then again, you expose yourself to the risk of someone breaking into your locker and stealing your watch. Cheers, Anthony

One of the best things I've found is the Oakley watch case...

 By: Zack845 : April 14th, 2009-13:25
Oakley has a large and small 'soft vault case'... These cases are circular with soft felt material inside, hard woven outer shell... Large size is perfect for a 46mm Breitling Navitimer World or a 44mm Panerai, the smaller one is perfect for an Omega Seam...

Prescription glasses case...

 By: BDLJ : April 14th, 2009-19:37
..I second that suggestion but if you're at the gym, may I suggest using a nice inconspicuous glasses case (which are usually flocked on the inside to protect against scratches). After all, who'd want to steal someones prescription glasses?

Have you considered...

Hello Rik! Have you considered buying Pelican, Storm, OtterBox cases? The have different sizes and built to withstand a lot of abuse yet waterproof and foam lined. As other have mentioned, you can ask your AD for the synthetic cases that they give you whe...

That's a cool case .... nt

Agreed on the travel case

Last week end, I have just ordered two similar cases which can store 4 watches last week at very reasonable price. Regards Ling

Just what I need... [nt]

Mythological references

 By: AndrewD : April 15th, 2009-23:16
Hi Toodlepip, It intrigues me how the different watch forums almost have their own mythology. The Elmer’s glue story is legendary on TimeZone, but I am not aware of that solution ever being suggested by a Purist, God forbid. J I wonder what has achieved m...

What's this Elmer's glue story? I don't get it

The Elmer’s Glue Story

 By: AndrewD : April 16th, 2009-15:19
Hi Anthony, A TimeZone contributor, “vatoemperor”, who provides his credentials of using packing tape to protect electronic items from scratches, goes on to apply Elmer’s glue to his watches, both case and dial. It dries clear and then p...

Out on a limb, maybe, but

My wife's been trying to teach me for 25 years, "what's the good of having something if you can't use it?" I know, it's counterintuitive to some of us. But, she wears her Reine to work in the garden. Two thoughts, wasn't the Reverso designed for soccer pl...

Not out on a limb....

I agree with your wife....if you have something nice then you should use it...within reason......and I agree with you about leaving a beautiful watch in a locker.....that would be asking for trouble. I try and match my watches for the activity I am undert...

I was aware of treading sacred ground there. And, I'm typing on a Brackberry at a cigar bar. You're right about choosing time wisely. I wear my Tissot Nascar to teach at college and my Tradition to dig up skeletons. 4n6 Guy aka H.

I just wrap the watch in a piece of cloth

 By: Geo : April 16th, 2009-02:33
and put it in my sportsbag and in the locker. Just make sure no everybody sees your watch. For me this is good enough and it works well. Geo

I get a patek long box from dealer....

 By: CL : April 16th, 2009-08:41
it's small and fit in most bags. I just put my watch in it and it's very secure as the box was originally meant for shipping *CL

... for responding to my post. I read some very nice suggestions which I'm going to look for. Of course I'm not really thinking about leaving my precious watch in a locker at the gym. Not the last reason being I never go to the gym. I just needed an examp...
