with alex...with modern day interior and design taste, it would be difficult to have a 18th century design clock to blend with most modern taste...

Is the classical clock dead? Opinions requested!

 By: high-end-clockmaker : February 25th, 2008-01:46
Hello Comunity, I just want to ask everybody out there in the web if you think, that the classical clock is died out? As I'm a clockmaker I'm interested to promote the classical mechanical clock as a piece of decoration and of course time keeping in our w...

My feeling is that the classical clock has been close to dead for perhaps half a century.

I'm moving away from watches and more and more into clocks, particularly high-precision clocks. If my wife and I had the same taste I'd also be collecting French Empire-style clocks, but it's one thing to have a selection of small watches your spouse does...

Nickd, interesting answer

I too am considering buying a clock, even if I hope I'm not that old! LOL I'm considering buying an Atmos JLC...AS, here, in Paris, the price of the square meter is a real obstacle to own a big clock... This is recent, but I saw some Atmos clocks which lo...

We're not far from Rambouillet. Perhaps we could meet in Paris one day... Did you know that there's a watch and clock fair at Mer (41500) in the Tourraine, across the river from Chambord, organised by the AFAHA on the 29-30 March. We'll be going. Perhaps ...

Wow, Nick

Thank you very much, Nick !

Hello Nick, Thanks a lot for your interesting answer. For me it is important to read your opinion. So the classical clock is still a part of our lives. As we (my father and me) produce unique pieces of clocks, we are glad to hear that there's still a mark...

I think clocks need to deal with 2 issues

 By: alex : February 26th, 2008-01:56
I think one of the main reasons clockmaking and clocks are (or were?) a disapearing craft are twofold. The first can be the lack of space, modern appartments usually don't provide the necessary space to include a nice big grandfather clock, the second has...

I agree..

You seem quite bitter.....

"Concerning watches, I should mention something now. What is a manufactory today? Is this a huge company producing laser cut and CAD produced pieces and assemble it to a tourbillon? Is this real manufactory work? Is this real publicity when these huge com...

Maybe not bitter...

I realy don´t think Sebastian is beeing bitter. He just has an inside knowledge about manufacturing processes that are not so often used by some important brands. He is just defending an art that makes some independent watchmakers whatr they are. Regardin...

Fair enough.....

Maybe bitterness is the wrong word. But why is it necessary to seemingly tear down one area of horology in order to build up another? It's almost as if he is implying that we collectors have all been "duped" somehow into thinking we have hand made marvels...

I have to agree...

 By: CTCT : February 28th, 2008-16:31
I have to agree with you that there are some fundamentalists on every side of watchmaking, and that some production aspects of major brands are unjustly criticised. Evolving to CNC and electro erosion machines today is like getting a better drill in the 1...

Not dead but impractical...

Hi Sebastian, Thank you for posting on our community and showing us your clocks. It is obvious that a lot of time and hardwork goes into each special piece, probably more than what goes into a wristwatch I would imagine given the size. I use the term impr...
