Azimuth Baselworld 09 press release for SP-1 Roulette

For avid players of the Roulette game, Azimuth has launched the aptly named “Roulette” watch; inspired by the obvious; the roulette wheel and its solid rectangular table. The Roulette is produced in time for the opening of Singapore’s first and Asia’s grandest Casino in mind by end of 2009.

The winding crown takes the form of a dice and serves 2 purposes; to set the time and to activate the spinning ball. By depressing and releasing the dice at the same time, the player “starts the ball rolling” (or spinning in this case). The hand with the ball spins around the roulette dial and stops randomly but always landing in the “slot” at the base of any given number.

The 3‐dimensional roulette dial gives the impression of a miniature roulette wheel encapsulated in a sapphire crystal.

Massive the case may be (at 45mm x 34mm), this block of CNC cut 316L stainless steel case is ergonomically design to ensure a snug fit on the user’s wrist with its highly curved back case which also has the Azimuth signature 'porthole' design showing the balance wheel spinning.

A 'BEAT THE CASINO' phrase can be seen marked on the back plate just to give the owner some encouragement before stepping onto the casino floor!

Specifications

Movement: ETA 2842 modified automatic winding Functions: Hours, minutes, seconds, spinning roulette hand Case: 316L stainless steel, 35 mm width x 55 mm lug to lug length, water resistant 5 ATM Band: 22 mm leather strap.

The Azimuth Roulette is made in limited edition of 500 pieces in stainless steel and comes fitted with a high grade leather strap with deployment buckle. Truly one for the avid Azimuth collector.

a big thanks to Azimuth for sending us this press release, but i really need a lesson in uploading PDF's as this has taken me hours of messing sad

i think its a typical offering from Azimuth...a toy that tells the time. simple internals, fairly brutal looking case and a bit of fun on the dial.

enjoy

Graham

Not a new concept cause of the Franck Muller Vegas watch

With the Franck Muller version, you just press the button which protrudes from the crown, and the curvy hand spins around like no tomorrow. Release the button and the hand stops. The Azimuth has its own design style but seems a little chunky from the pict...

Thanks Graham...

..one more to add to an entire sub-genre - Perhaps if we take guidance from one of these we might be able to produce the necessary funds to acquire that elusive tourbillon, or dragon watch ;-) Cheers, pplater. [photo crdits embedded in URLs]...
