This is by no means exhaustive but the magazine wasn't putting many German brands like A Lange Sohne and IWC (produced in the German speaking area and largely popular amongst Germans) on top.

i myself never count on such ranking tables as a guidance for my personal taste , you cant compare oranges to apples unless we are speaking a business comparison based, meaning , we are comparing the brands on business basics, such as how far a brand obta...

Hmm Bulgari, Roger Dubuis, and Breguet all had +5

 By: AnthonyTsai : June 22nd, 2010-07:51
Guess management at these 3 brands are doing a good job. IWC -4, FP Journe & Tissot -5, Girard-Perregaux -6, and Chronoswiss at -7. Signs that these brands's popularity may be waning? I find these rankings interesting, but it's helpful to see how the bran...

Anthony, but then you would need to know...

which factor(s) is(are) responsible for the movement of a brand in respect to previous rankings, all things being equal, especially the ranking method. I would be very hesitant to call a ranking stupid per se. In this case at least quite a comprehensive s...

Very true.....

However, on should take into consideration other factors too.... For example... How many ADs of each brand and how they promote... or lack of an AD... in the case of FP Journe.... Also, how the questions were asked... etc.... Cheers

1. Interesting that Roger Dubois gets a +5 even though that brand name, along with Gerald Genta, is being discontinued (heard that from an RD AD). 2. I see the rankings incorporate such criteria as marketing and price/performance ("Preis/Leistung"). 3. I ...

agreed

I miss mickey mouse watches and the gefica. Damn Bulgari

tag & breitling...

Im shocked that those 2 are so high, in place of some other watchmakers. I have a Tag , and its a nice watch, but I think that those 2 really belong a little lower.

The rankings are obviously ridiculous IMO

 By: AnthonyTsai : June 22nd, 2010-09:31
but the only thing I'm interested in seeing in this ranking poll is the movement of brand rankings - up or down. Some may even find the movement of brand rankings ridiculous but I see it as something notable to look at. To me, it represents some sort of o...

How do you spell "hooey" in German?

 By: jkingston : June 22nd, 2010-10:46
This is one of the most ridiculous lists I have ever seen. And this is measured against a history of stupid lists. The profound ignorance displayed is this "chart" is breathtaking. How about this: let's ban all such lists, because at the end of the day no...

That's incorrect

Porsche needs to be a spot lower, a inconsistently pronounced vowel is at least one demerit! a

the word is Quatsch

in response to someone who recently asked: "There must be a great German word that means idiotic, contradictory and bullshit at the same time." Blunotte, are you listening? amerix

Well if you think about it...

Except for points on "lifestyle" if they have been objective in giving points this could be the outcome. Indeed the bang for a buck factor on a Tag Heuer is pretty high; you get a nice and reliable watch for a good price. And I love JLC, but it is quite t...

i wish there was...

a members "own personal rankings thread" . That way people could list their top 15 and put the reasoning why. Whether they say the categories they are judging on, or just the general thought behind it. Similar to a power ranking on sports sites where each...

Yeah, great idea, and then we could..

to focus the attention on the tecnique; IWC, breitling and panerai get 6 while AP breguet, VC, blancpain and RD get 4. The prestige is even more funny: somebody should tell to the people that VC is the oldest watch manufacturer in the world in continuous ...

not to mention "complication"

how rolex got a 3 for their lone chronograph movement tying Omega's central tourbillon is beyond me A

Just for fun...

 By: Ogygia : June 22nd, 2010-19:32
The technique of Breitling got 6 is a joke! The rank of IWC -4 and become 9...but the previous rank 5th is A. Lang....LOL

one should never assume

If you have to tell people a brand is what... then the brand in itself needs a little more story telling... no?

methodology?

 By: Hororgasm : June 22nd, 2010-13:16
would be better if methodology is highlighted...survey? peer group ratings? whatever i dont think it is a stupid list, i just may not be reflective of the values of brands held by fellow forum members. lastly, someone mentioned our own list?? why not? soun...

You just have to see the scores...

... to realise it is extremely subjective. For example, Patek gets a 6 for Preis/Leistung, but Lange only gets 4. In my opinion these 2 should be on par in this area. Also "lifestyle"? What does that mean? How is Patek rated 2 scores higher than Lange in ...

Agree... but in some ways... you can't deny that Patek is more engrained

in mass' mind as a good watch than A Lange Sohne... which half of the World can't even pronounce... no joke... neither can they say Porscheeeeeeeeeeeeee correctly. Trust me, you wear a huge Breitling for Bentley on your wrist, half the World will know you...
