Droz Super Compressor: Some pictures of a nice Vintage Diving Watch.

Sep 14, 2010,07:29 AM

I had the opportunity to see a superb Vintage Diving Super Compressor, the Droz.

A watch which in my wish list.

42 mm case, domed plexy, typical crowns, very legible dial with nice indexes and hands, this one has a lot of personality.

Enjoy these pictures.

In my opinion, this is the 5th most exciting 42 mm Vintage Super Crown ever made.

I would rate it after the JLC Polaris, the Longines Diver, the Vulcain Nautical, and the UG Polerouter Sub, and AFTER the Bulova, the Enicar and the Sandoz.

I prefer the Droz without the Date, but even with the Date, it would make my day... One Day.

smile

Best,

Nicolas

Beautiful glossy black dial, even at this age (Restored?). Many of the key elements are here -- legibility, inner rotating bezel, cross-hatched crowns. Lovely. I think this is a fantastic piece. Thanks for the pictures, Vlad! Cheers, Daos

Restored, certainly not.

In amazing condition, certainly yes. There are some guys who are faster than me, in France... They may see and feel two small holes on their neck, tomorrow morning.... Best, Vlad ...Dracul.

What a nice, clean example Nicolas. I am curious to know

... what factors influence your rankings among the vintage super crowns? Best, CaliforniaJed

I was waiting for this question, Mon Cher Confrère...

 By: amanico : September 14th, 2010-08:46
Some objective elements such as the originality ( Diving Alarm watch ), movement ( in house rather than outsourced ETA ), finish. Some totally subjective elements, such as aesthetics, rarity, desirability. This one is really a superb specimen of Droz SC. ...

Super clean and very much the feel of an LLD

I like this one a lot. Looks great on the Kevlar strap, too (although it looks like someone wore this while painting their house ;-))

Not kevlar strap, mrsnak...

But original Tropic! I just realized the white spots, while working on the pics. Maybe the owner just came back from Mac Donald? Yes, it looks very familiar to Longines Diver owners... I could easily be convinced to go further with this thema. OUCH! Best,...

very nice and hard to find i would think

i had, as you know, an australian naval issue Droz single crown super compressor, but have never seen one like yours before. Droz prior to the jaquet Droz ressurgence is very difficult to find info on if not impossible which makes yours an even greater fi...

Not mine, sadly, Graham...

There's still a few Super Compressor RAN Droz's knocking about...all of which have ruined internal bezels - The curse of the Twin Crown EPSA cases. They pop up every now and then. Your single crown RAN is rarer as far as I know.

sadly Ben, its long gone....

 By: G99 : September 15th, 2010-01:16
sadly Ben, its long gone. so many regrets in life and selling all those wonderful vintage pieces is one of them. ho hum, life goes on. Graham, the seller of everything rare and desirable...

ahh.

...it's just a watch (now, THAT"S blasphemy on this site)...There's more out there. And you probably sold to someone who appreciates it just as much as you did. Plus the more people paying attention to them, means less end up in the bin. At least you had ...

im always amazed

Very nice and confidential SC! I love these watches and there are for sure beautiful examples. I agree with you, the Polaris is apart, but access is limited to the few because of he budget, as far as the Longines and UGs go, we've seen beautiful examples ...

I love the IWC Ref 812, Matt...

 By: amanico : September 14th, 2010-13:47
And to say all, this is another watch I hunt. It is a kind of JLC MM Deep Sea, from IWC. If I didn't mention it, here, it is because the case is 37 mm big, not 42. Best, my friend. Nicolas.

Not yours? So, now you have another on your list, eh? My take on the white on the tropical is that you drooled on it…! :: )) Best, my friend Blomman

It is on my list for a ( too ) long time, now, Blomman.

Hi Alain, That's a great way to introduce yourself to the forum. I really like this diver, more than the Polaris perhaps. And the date window works for me because of the colours. Was that the original golden colour of the date wheel or has it become patin...

Close, still different.

Not that strange, the SC case was shared by so many brands! As for the dial, it is close, yet different. You have to " dive " into the SC world, as you dive in the Memovox world, and you will appreciate the familiar yet different loo of these watches, lie...
