Manufakturmesse Baden-Baden, part 2
There are many women watchmakers, but Christine Genesis is one of the very few women watchmakers with their own brand and making their own watches in limited editions. I find her watches quite attractive, very German in style with their clean lines and small dabs of color.
The steps in making a Genesis chrono dial
Silversmith Achim Heinkel works using the technique know as Mokume Gane. Similar to dascus steel, but instead of using different kinds of steel, this technique interleaves silver and copper fusing them together and forming to produce truely beautiful objects.
Now we move on to Christof Jamin's wonderful damascus steel knives. Mr. Jamin is both a smith and an industrial designer and his work proves it with its hand crafted perfection coupled with beautiful flowing forms.
For the lovers of exclusive writing implements Papier Klein from Homburg showed a selection of the top products of Montblanc, Graf von Faber Castell and Caran d'Ache.
RHL offers fans of that special 1970s look watches with modern movements in NOS 1970s cases. Tempting...
Vickermann und Stoya is a shoemaker from Baden-Baden making custom shoes from the best leathers the traditional way.
Some of the leathers used include elephant as seen here, others such as ostrich, horse and, of course, calf.
Dominik Sternberg presented his watches to the greater public for the first time here at the Manufakturmesse.
The watches from the Feinmechanische Werkstatt Bleitz are simply overflowing with ideas. Mr. Bleischwitz has a background in fine mechanics from the optical industry which he is now applying to watches. One of his inventions is the use of a moving band of paper or fabric to show the time. This has opened doors to all kinds of displays.

The time can be decifered from the markings on the train cars.
The hour glass watch. Again using the ribbon, time flows from throught the display. Note the crown.
Another one of Mr. Bleischwitz's inventions, an electrically opening knife. The original idea coming from a friend with a disability which made it impossible for him to open a normal knife. Just press a button to open or close.
The house Emil Kraus, founded in 1866 in Pforzheim Germany, is specialised in mens jewelry.
Borgward was a German car manufacturer which sold their last vehicle in 1961. Borgward was a part of the success story of post-war Germany. The new watch brand Borgward hopes to latch on to some of the good memories in launching their automobile related collection.
This has been a fast over view of many different products from small shops mostly in Germany.
As we can see there is much more to the watch scene than just the big brands.
