My top 4 vintage divers aligned

Dec 02, 2011,23:54 PM

Dear vintage divers enthusiats,

I started my vintage divers theme two years ago.  I have been developing this theme and I posted many pics so some of you have been following my journey.  The first year I started on the 60s watches, easier to find and more affordable.  The last year I have been taking larger breaths to go deeper and explore the 50s watches which are directly linked to the beginning of diving.  To me, these watches are also the most desirable presenting a simple, pure design with a single, no crown guard crown, three hands, no date, and when you find some nice examples they have developed a unique patina.  This week I was ever so happy to add the one piece that was really missing, the legendary Fifty Fathom.  Each of these watches has been presented by many venerable members so I won't post individual pics on this post. I had the idea of presenting a photo shoot with the four watches aligned, a focus on each watch and a family shot.  This way one can admire the beauty of each of them and compare these equaly desirable pieces, thin or thick case, thin or thick bezel, amolst flat, domed or super domed plexi, different hand designs, 38 to 41mm, simple index or 3/6/9/12 dial.

Each watch develops a unique personality that makes each of them very desirable.  So enough words, here are the pictures:

1. Focus Blancpain Fifty Fathoms

2. Focus Longines Nautilus

3. Focus Rolex Submariner 6538

4. Focus Omega Seamaster 300

The four beauties:

I hope you enjoy the pics, looking forward to your comments...

Matt

You're correct. The Diving watches from the Fifties are the mothers of all ...

The others. They are the roots, they are the examples, they are inspired and inspiring, they are all, and impossible to beat. Rolex / Tudor, Omega, Longines, Blancpain, they are great names! You don't have to forget some others, like Breitling, JLC, Bregu...

thanks Nico!

You are right, there are a few more...time will come, as you know some of these are not easy to find so one has to wait for the nice opportunity to arrive! and there are also some nice 60s ones!!!... Matt

I also hunt those from the 60ies...

But most of them can be seen as evolutions from the Fifties. Most, not all of them, I agree. Best, Nicolas.

Definitely four beauties.

Firstly congrats on catching the FF, Matt, a wonderful edition to your theme. I really dig the fact that you have chosen to follow the theme rather than the brand and have built a personal collection that finds the most interesting watches of their period...
