Raketa at BaselWorld 2012

Raketa has a big announcement this year.  While their watches look the same as last, they are now all powered by Raketas own mechanical movement produced in their own factory in St. Petersburg.  No, this is not haute horlogerie, but these are fun watches, good designs and a watch industry showing entrepreneurship and will to create value.

I appreciate you covering some of these less expensive brands. Raketa looks like the Russian mechanical equivalent to fashionista Swatch, in-house movement to boot!

They are so cool :-)...

While the designs are a bit over the top for me (with a couple exceptions) these are really fun watches that have a clear Russian (westernized Russian?) flair. But not a traditional military theme that some of the other known Russian brands tend to focus ...

I love the calendar watch ....

... and think this would be a really useful "complication" on a Swiss or German watch, too: Unfortunately the Raketa calendar watch seems to be unavailable with Latin printing. thanks, Don, for showing them! Marcus
