Something to celebrate...

Mar 02, 2013,23:26 PM

... to take a delivery of 5550 or to drink Romanee Conti 1991?  Both of which, the participants may not experience again for a long time..... smile

Oh, what aroma.... I just can't describe....  Extremely lucky to experience with such a reasonable (relatively speaking!) price....

5550... just another PP this evening.  Normally, something to celebrate the man who got the delivery (not me).

Yeah, yeah, yeah, silicon escapement, blah, blah, blah, must be great, many people would like to own... but who cares tonight?  We were all almost ignoring it....

Oh, man...

1991 - about time to breath, baby?

I really didn't want to finish....

We had a tremendously happy evening last night....

Oh, PP?  The owner was wearing it when we left the restaurant and then another bar, I think....  We had totally forgot about it....

Ken

I understand why you forgot the watch...

With such bottle! Thanks Ken! Fx

Yeah, once in a lifetime opportunity...

 By: KIH : March 3rd, 2013-00:39
.. for most of us.... (funny when I think some of them spend 100s of 1000s of dollars for one watch but still extremely awed by perhaps 10K wine bottles :-)) Ken

Event "aroma"

I can imagine the evening atmoshpere with three forms of art: watchmaking, gastronomy and oenology. I can also easily understand that, for such a night, one single element musn't come over the others as they should all be equally mixed together. Congratul...

Special occasion, special chance...

 By: KIH : March 3rd, 2013-04:11
.. just by chance there came an opportunity such wine and yes, that was a great evening. Guys talking about watches, works, foods, wine, etc.... Thank you! Ken

i'm overawed by £50 bottles of wine Ken

 By: G99 : March 3rd, 2013-02:48
wine is sustenance like bread and vegetables so i dont want to pay a fortune for something you will enjoy, but wont have in the morning. i'm just a normal guy who enjoys off the shelf wine, the stuff you can afford to buy 6 bottles of for a night in with ...

That is why...

 By: KIH : March 3rd, 2013-04:10
.. we called it "once in a life time night", we don't usually drink such expensive wines.... :-) Ken

Ahhhhh, Ken!...

 By: pplater : March 3rd, 2013-06:37
To drink DRC, from a great year, is on "the bucket list" - along with (but ahead of) owning a Haldimann central tourbillon. You are blessed - congratulations! Cheers, pplater.

I am done.... :-)

 By: KIH : March 3rd, 2013-07:35
... about high-end wine.... NOT horologically.... :-) Ken

Mmmmm....

 By: andrewluff : March 3rd, 2013-12:15
Personally I would have passed on the PP but certainly would have enjoyed the RC. Hopefully not shared with too many friends! Of course the interesting debate to decant or not with vintage Burgundy, so interesting to see it still in its bottle. Cheers And...

Of course it was, I think...

 By: KIH : March 3rd, 2013-17:22
... the fundamental difference between using money on watches and wines: Wines would be gone forever once you enjoyed it; watches would stay with you for a long, long time while you enjoy it on and off.... :-) Ken

There is always....

 By: andrewluff : March 4th, 2013-00:11
The memory of a great wine, the occasion and the friends you shared it with. That remains locked in the memory for a long time :-) Cheers Andrew

I know nothing about wine Ken, but I love the watch.

Congrats to the owner and those who drink the special wine :)

I, too, know very little about wine...

 By: KIH : March 5th, 2013-05:09
...as I never remember the name of the wine I have drunk... but still I knew the name "Romanee Conti" so I was excited. That excitement paled the new watch that evening.. :-) Even the owner didn't like the watch that much anyway LOL... Ken

Regarding the Grape...

 By: iim7v7im7 : March 5th, 2013-17:16
Ken, “I like to think about what was going on the year the grapes were growing; how the sun was shining; if it rained. I like to think about all the people who tended and picked the grapes. And if it’s an old wine, how many of them must be dead by now. I ...

It's more similar than not...

 By: KIH : March 5th, 2013-18:22
... to the way I think about the vintage watches... :-) Thank you for the quote! Ken

Ken I know nothing about good wines, so I would end up..

 By: Ronald Held : March 4th, 2013-07:39
Concentrating on that watch.

I know very little, too...

 By: KIH : March 5th, 2013-05:11
.. but the owner was not too happy and we were concentrating the "Romanee Conti" that even I have heard of :-) Hope all is well! Ken

Celebration in style!

Tried that wine once, but not from 1991 and not from a Magnum :-( For sure the wine needs/deserves a lot of attention and it helps to forget about watches, even when they are special :-) Thanks for sharing! Oliver

That really was the special night...

 By: KIH : March 5th, 2013-05:11
... it is quite rare for us to forget about the watches.... :-) Ken

Love the wine, understand the differing sentiments

 By: SethRL : March 4th, 2013-12:03
Not hard to understand why one might spends thousands on a watch but (most of us) rarely if ever will do that on a bottle of wine: what's the wine going look like in 24 hours? the watch? which might you get another chance to enjoy?

You are right!

 By: KIH : March 5th, 2013-05:12
... that's why we were all so excited saying that this would be the once in the lifetime tasting :-) Ken

I know nothing about wine............

 By: Topcat30093 : March 4th, 2013-23:48
And would I have no doubt appreciate it even less. :( But what I can appreciate is the 5550 and what it represents to both Patek and the customer :) No mistaking that you ALL must have had a wonderful evening.

Yes, we have, Tony!

 By: KIH : March 5th, 2013-07:07
I don't remember much about the watch, perhaps none of us do :-) Even the owner almost left it on the table when we finished, LOL. Ken

Not my cup of tea, but yes, must become very popular...

 By: KIH : March 5th, 2013-05:14
... I am sure. And the wine was great (to my inexperienced taste buds...)! Ken

Nice , Ken !

 By: RobCH : March 5th, 2013-03:04
Forget the PP, (I know very little about Pateks!), what was the white wine you drank before, and what meal did you enjoy with the RC ?

Okay, sir...

 By: KIH : March 5th, 2013-05:16
.. it was an Italian restaurant and the wine was brought in by one of us. We started with Spumante, then went to this bottle, went all the way to the main course which was duck.... and then opened the another so-so red wine (Pino noir) and the difference ...

Ouch !

 By: RobCH : March 5th, 2013-06:51
A Pinot Noir after Romanée Conti...! :-) But then, I guess it was exactly as you all expected, wasn't it! Anyway, sounds like a most enjoyable evening...I'm envious. Cheers

i liken that to what...

 By: G99 : March 5th, 2013-07:18
i liken that to what i used to do with port. give everyone a nice glass of vintage port and then follow it up with a late bottled vintage :) On 5 Mar 2013 14:51, "www watchprosite" *Alert from:* www:watchprosite > *Posted By:* RobCH (registered) on March ...

Glorious Wine...Glorious PP

 By: ocwatching : March 5th, 2013-11:09
awesome pairing for the evening... what an experience indeed!

Thanks!

 By: KIH : March 5th, 2013-14:34
.. but honestly, none of us remember talking about the watch.... :-) Thanks! Ken
