Watch fantasies... A supercar-shaped exotic on the wrist!

Jun 28, 2014,16:42 PM

Guys, I had a vision just the other day... we all love fast cars and sleek watches (among other vices) don't we. Why not a supercar-shaped watch?

Sure.. lots of driver's watches around, but all of them following the same pattern of orienting the dial to face sideways. None of them taking the automotive theme to the next level..

So I'm dreaming of a watch... top-grade everything, great movement and finishing... with guillotine doors (like a Countach, my boyhood fantasy) or gullwing doors (like the immortal 300 SL)... The doors are not for nothing, they would flip upwards and protect the crown while they are "closed", making the case incredibly streamlined (for aerodynamics of course!).

I'm even dreaming of tinted sapphire crystal for the "doors" - if you can picture the LaFerrari whose cockpit is tinted.

Even more... the lugs are shaped like wheel arches, flared like a pre-war Bugatti Atlantic. And the pushers to open the doors? They are of course shaped like wheel lugs.

The entire watch is basically a delicate fusion of exotic supercar design and haute horlogerie...

What do you guys think? Madness? Or genius? wink

Not a bad idea, considering how some watchmakers actually gained their inspiration from automobile... Such as MB&F's HM5 (from Lamborghini Miura), Hublot (LaFerrari.. from Ferrari of course). Perhaps you can design it and show us your ideas? :D

So I've developed this idea further...

Thanks! Yes I think so too, but I want to incorporate even more of the automotive theme into the case structure, to make the elements functional instead of gimmicky... So I figured my supercar watch should have Guillotine doors like the Countach or Diablo...

Absolutely great idea!

Earlier I tried to find a similar fusion between architecture and watches, this is somehow easier, I guess, and drew several scetches, but finally I found a great product, that I thought has already completed what I was planning to do. Would you share wit...

Yes of course de Owar!

I think maybe this is a good challenge for Max Busser...
