Longines Heritage 1940

Love the case of the Longines Heritage 1940!

I just wish that they would have gone for a no date option as well, like on the LLD!

I think I know from where they got the inspiration for this watch...!

Boy, everything else abut this piece sings. Love the hands a lot, case, lugs, dial, everything. Best, Joe Ps. What does the back look like?

Totally agree, Joe!

The back is open/automatic movement: Iteresting to see strap size 19 mm. Often see on vintage watches, but not on modern... On the wrist test: Imagin if the date window wasen't there... Best Blomman ...

This is a killer watch for the money

Love the strap too I was surprised with open back, very nice value here too. Thanks for the added scans Best Joe

Well, these two will have to make do

But this little black baby would have felt real nice. Maybe Longines is listening? Joe ...

Wow, wow, wow, Joe.

I like your style! Best, CaliforniaJed

I really hope so, Joe! :)

The first one is one of my favorite ALS! :) Best Blomman

Hmmm... NOT a fan of a small seconds subdial crowded close to the center pivots,

revealing that the movement is too small for the case. With the new larger cases now in favor, we see too much of this, movements not fitting the case. I'd rather see an old, HW caliber used so the subseconds is close to the '6' where it belongs.

+1 Chris, +1 ! [nt]

'Nice' watch, but

Damen date, damn movement (ETA) and damn re-edition (how original is that?) The modern Longines do not come anywhere close their ancestotrs. Nice vintage, Blomman!

Except the LLD ?

 By: bimbeano : July 29th, 2014-09:41
This 1940 without the date would be perfect for me ... the movement ..... i know ... But hey, at least it fits my budget ... I think the date stopped me several times from buying it as it would be a nice addition to my LLD .... Bim

True, but I think it's ...

A good way for modern Longines to connect back the their history and make people aware. Guess it also is a way for them to eventually raise their price... Thank you, Z! Best Blomman

What's wrong with the date window?

 By: CaliforniaJed : July 29th, 2014-09:44
I would prefer it without the large Longines logo and "Automatic" on the dial, but the date window does not bother me. I want to better understand why it offends those who find it offensive. Let's hear the bill of particulars... Best, CaliforniaJed

For me does not offend

I just find the window distracting and interrupting the symmetry and flow around the dial. I absolutely understand the marketing and the need for the date to the target users. Really just a personal preference thing. I do think the piece has tremendous at...

Thanks Joe. I don't get "distracting".

 By: CaliforniaJed : July 29th, 2014-11:54
The symmetry disruption is undeniable, to a degree, though I find the placement at 6 the better location than 3 or some eccentric location on the dial. I personally don't find the date complication distracting, though. I have come to the conclusion that t...

For me the date window...

Ruins the balance of the dial. Especially located at six. It would have been better if at three. But of course, I would prefer without any date window at all. Best Blomman

Thanks Blomman - Why is 6 worse than 3?

 By: CaliforniaJed : July 29th, 2014-11:48
Not trying to be argumentative, seriously trying to see it through your eyes. I have come to like the placement at 6 better than 3 -- I actually believe it is more balanced there, and I have admitted to myself that I value the utility of a date complicati...

No argument - only different opinions, my friend! :)

By: blomman Mr Blue : July 29th, 2014-12:04
To me the date at six kills the beauty of the sub-second dial. If it would have been a central second dial, my objection would not have been as strong, still think it would even better without. Or at three, inside the minute track. As for big date - Big d...

I appreciate the reply (and picture) Blomman.

I thoroughly respect your opinion, and I think I understand your perspective. So many of the watches in your collection (the overwhelming majority of those I have seen) I find exquisite, but in this instance, our opinions diverge greatly! That's part of t...

Thank you for your kind words, CJ!

Yes, I think we share a lot of virtues when it comes to watches. But not all, which I think is a good thing! If we all would there would only be a market from one watch... Imagine how boring life would be.... Best Blomman

Love these step dials :)

Nearest Longines AD I hopefully you will find one! ;) Or did you mean the vintage one...? Not impossible to find, but most are in the smaller segment 31 - 33 mm... Best Blomman

Without a date and without...

automatic written under Longines it would be instant hit but if pared with manual winding movement I think it would be big hit One of worst date occurances lately :( Yours D

While we are wishing....

Why not locate the sub-second a bit lower and make it a bit bigger...?! :) Best Blomman

My dear friend....
