Watches and headphones

Sep 21, 2014,20:49 PM

I guess this is an extension of the existing theme of watches and fashion? At any rate, here's my attempt at putting the two together.

1. Metallic pairing, 100% aluminum: Grado HP1000 + FP Journe Centigraphe S

2. Natural pairing, mahogany + pearl: Grado RS1 + FP Journe Resonance MOP

Would love to see if others here have any favorite watch and headphone combinations. smile

A difficult pairing concept - headphones and watches

doobooloo This is a difficult concept. Although I supported the topic of personal apparel matches with watches, the pairing of headphones and watches is unfamiliar. Context must be the reason. When we match watches as accessories, its to present a harmoni...

I love music, and whereas before, I was happy to enjoy my music through a regular MP3 (or tape or CD), having slowly added components between the path from audio source, to ears, it releases a lot lot more in the music. For most of my friends, they think....

I agree with both of you -

From the perspective of pursuit-of-perfection, there's a lot in common between the worlds of high-end audio and horology. Headphones are particularly interesting as both watches and headphones are miniaturizations of the larger worlds of timekeeping and a...

..and very lovely watches. For the less knowledgeable amongst us, though: are there magnets in those headphones? Cheers, pplater.

Yes... magnets indeed.

The drivers do have metal covers over the magnets but are definitely still magnetic! That said I hope given the distance from the actual magnets to the watches in the photos, say an inch, the watches are fine... Fingers crossed!

You're right!

You're right, I should be more careful with watches around headphones. I'll report back if I find noticeable deviation in timekeeping on the pieces used!

Beautiful watch, that Resonance. How do you like your Journe watches? Do you find them accurate? Do you find them reliable? How long have you owned them? Tell me more about the headphones. The only special headphones I own are the ones I take aboard the a...

Thanks -

Thanks for your kind words! I love my Journe watches... but I have to be honest, I have never really spent much effort into determining whether the pieces are accurate. I feel I am not being honest with myself if I say I wear a particular watch for its su...

the best sound of all the phones I tried (Grado, Senn, Audeze). What amp do you use for them? Great fp journes, by the way! Now I have to find something to match my PS500....

Grados

Glad to meet a Grado fan here too! :) I too rotate around Sennheiser and Stax in addition to the Grados but I always feel I enjoy the music the most with my Grados. Not to mention I think there's something special about their aesthetics. As for amps... it...

YM with PT bezel and ice face might be a good pairing as well. I used to think like a purist when it came to audio, but now I only care about how much I like the sound, and how little it fatigues me. I have nothing to prove. I think the most important par...

I couldn't agree more with you - that the only thing that matters is how much you like the sound! I actually think that is the highest form of being a Purist, and this applies to timepieces as well - not blindly following others' opinions or chasing down ...
