Jamie Bestwick named Ambassador for Laureus

As more and more partnerships are formed, IWC and Laureus Sports for Goods Foundation joined together to celebrate the induction of their new brand ambassador - X-Games gold winner record holder Jamie Bestwick. Mr. Bestwick has had quite the season breaking a record of 9 consecutive gold medals. As New York Fashion Week came to an end, IWC threw a private celebration on the eve of February 19th to present the honor of the 2014 Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year.


Originally from Nottingham, England, Bestwick was flow to New York City to team up with the I Challenge Myself foundation. He teamed up with the non-profit organization at Central Park to help inspire youths from low-income communities to become better prepared for the future through cycling and fitness challenges. Joined by I Challenge Myself founder and President Ana Reyes, Bestwick created a safe and comfortable environment to discuss personal challenges with the participating kids.

The incredible sports star joins fellow Laureus Academy Sports Member Tony Hawk and fellow 2014 winners, Rafael Nadal, Missy Franklin, and Sebastian Vettel. From the age of 10, Jamie has felt a certain connection to the bicycle and began his passion when he was riding his friend's bike while doing tricks on the curb. Since his first gold medal finish in 2000, he began his winning streak in 2007. He is most well-known for his tricks and amazing heights during his runs. 

Despite the below freezing temperatures of the February night, selected guests were invited to the IWC boutique on Madison Avenue for canapés and champagne. The boutique was constructed like a planned out storybook. Beginning with the more classical models, the party celebrated not only the new ambassador of Laureus, but also the models shown at SIHH just last month. As one moved back and forth across the room, servers floated around with mushroom poppers and flutes of champagne.

The middle of the boutique held the automotive and sport collections with models of vintage sports cars and books about professional competitive sports. Further back was what looked like a room in an aquarium for the diving watches. The room had a floor to ceiling water tank with watches placed under snorkels. At the far end of the boutique was a staircase to the loft on the second floor that looked out over the grand entrance of the boutique. 

Around 7:30, Edouard d'Arbaumont, President of IWC North America, took the stage to introduce Jamie Bestwick to the guests and reiterate the power each of us had in making a change in the world. He opened his speech with an homage to Mr. Nelson Mandela and explained the power not only that Mr. Mandela saw in sports, but what Laureus USA has strived and successfully achieved in promoting sports for youths around the world.

The beautiful and elegant Portofino Collection. 
Stemming from the IWC Lépine open face pocket watch, the "Portofino" wristwatch was born in 1984 and has become one of the most successful lines of IWC watches





In the early 1970's, mastermind Gerald Genta created the Ingenieur SL in 1976 utilizing a modernist technique of leaving the screws or functional bores uncovered




The Ingenieur Chronograph Silberpfeil Limited Edition watch is limited to 1,000 watches per dial. The watch honors the historic Mercedes-Benz racing car with its circular-grain dial. This is a tribute to the dashboard of the Mercedes Silver Arrow W25. An engraving of a stylized Mercedes Silver Arrow racing car is found on the case back.



This year marks the 75th year of the Portugieser family. To celebrate this iconic moment, IWC has launched six new models. Notice that these models use more ceramic parts for higher resistance to wear and tear.
