Impulse buy

I got a call this afternoon while I was out buying some shoes.  The IWC boutique called to let me know that it received a steel vintage Ingenieur.  Were I to post a story about my search for a new watch, it would be long, rambling and you might think me schizophrenic.  I was trying on RD easy divers this morning, GO sport evolutions yesterday, reverso's, overseas' and aqua terra's last week and Parmigiani the previous week.  I may still buy a Silberstein Basik Black when it arrives ...

Boston lady seeking advice on first purchase of fine timepiece

I have long admired fine watches, and as in all things I would rather do without than settle for something mediocre.  I now have the means to start my collection, but I am a bit bewildered by the options and also am not familiar with many of the fine European brands.   For the first watch I would prefer something classic and suitable for daily wear in a professional setting - my late mother was a lady of quality, but not flashy, and I wish to purchase a watch that will remind me of her as I look a...

Finally get to see the real thing...RED ALERT!!

I think it really look much better then what i expect earlier. It was Yellow that caught my eyes initially but after seeing this real thing, i have doubts now Nicely match to the pvd case and thats the RED you want to see, subtle yet alarming. Take it in your hands and admire it, the color really grows on you. I believe this 2 new colors will do even better then the previous ones, of course just my humble opinion with little mixture of personal taste and passions!=p Now, till i see the Yellow ...

IWC Da Vinci Chrono

When the IWC Da Vinci Chrono was launched last year, I really liked it. IWC first in-house manufacture chrono, column wheel, good power reserve etc, what's not to like. Admitted some people don't like the tonneau shape. But it does look good on some hands when worn. But there is just soooooooo little write-ups or reviews on this watch on most of the watch websites, including the IWC forum itself. It's like this watch never took off at all. Why is this? Any thoughts at all? Is this watch just not popular, an...

Fallen Man

I've once again proved to be a failure as a human being. No self control at all. I said to 2 moderators that i wouldn't buy any watch until July. Turn out that once I saw IT, I began to develop acute must-have-it-otherwise-I-can't-breath syndrome. My palms sweaty, throat dry, eyes blurry, and ears tingly. I was terribly shaken when my hand instinctively reached for my wallet. I was agonising for 5 minutes, until I convince myself that I wasn't entirely guilty. Since I said the promise to that particular m...

IWC Question

Hi all, I know we do not have an IWC forum so I thought to post this here.   Can anyone tell me the difference between the IW371713 (basic pilots chrono) and the IW371431 (Portuguese Chrono-Automatic). Having seen both in an AD lately I am lead to believe that they share the same basic movement, except that the pilots chrono has day / date and an extra register (and the anti-magnetic cage). Is this the complete difference? And if it is why is there a premium on the portuguese chrono- the pil...

With the two recent auctions of the Journe and Dufour Repeater/Soneries,

there has been some talk in the different fora about repeater movements. I know that there have been some comments that in house might be prefferable, and frankly I must admit, I am an in house movement person. However, with repeaters I might deviate from this preference. Our beloved CL pointed out to me that with a Patek, Vacheron, or Kari you get a more conventional movement that is more easily serviceable. This has me thinking, how many watchmakers can actually service a Dufour or Journe Grande and P...
