E. Townsend Watch - I'm on Nantucket

Cheers from Nantucket, I'm on Nantucket, it's a rainy Wednesday, and under the circumstances a man's mind shifts to......you got it......horology.... Anyway, I just walked out of the shop of one of the better (if not the only) high end watch purveyors on this island.  They offer an in-house line called "E. Townsend".  The model I'm looking at is a 5 ATM chronograph with a Valjoux 7750 movement - very "Ulysse Nardin-ish" in its design approach.   Built to spec in Switzerland for Mr. Towns...

A Crazy Day, Amazing Friends, and a Nice Story

We decided to organize a small GTG between French Purist Friends, who weren't already in Holidays, yesterday.Ok, you will say that this is another GTG, and that this is not exceptional...You're wrong! Each time friends decide to organize a GTG, this is an exceptional moment, as this is always great to share time, spend a moment between real true Friends. So, Patrice and Jeff ( Dr Strong ) were coming from the south of France, Foversta and me from Paris, and Jeff's friend was joined us for a quick moment.5 Wat...

How to use a Greiner Antimag 2 de-magnetiser......

I bought a Greiner Antimag 2 de-magnetiser mainly because my Panerai 249 has suddenly gone from +4 seconds per day to +50 seconds per day and I thought it may have become magnetised (which can cause such behaviour). Unfortunately I do not have any instructions in english so I was hoping someone here may know how to use the machine. Here is a picure of it: Thanks.Simon ...

Where would we like to see PuristSPro head?

Dear fellow Purists,   It’s been many months since the migration to the new platform and I thought this would be an appropriate time to do some naval gazing, consider where we have come from and where we want to go.   Obviously PuristSPro is a complex organic structure made up of all of YOU, with varying ideas, approaches and personalities, but with the common thread of an interest in mechanical and related timepieces. We do, however, have some say in the directions we want to head...

The Elusive Beater

I was thinking about my search for a good beater watch--the watch you honestly can wear everyday--to 90% of all the places you go including work. It's the watch that you feel bonking against a wall but you don't want to kill yourself. It's the watch that blends into your life--you allow this watch to become Ordinary to you--even though it is in no way an ordinary watch. It gets scratched but the scratches give it character--the scratches liberate the wrist to fling about wherever it may, while gesturing in ...

Useful Watch boxes

I read the article that we all have watch boxes collecting dust and what i cant understand is that we spend all that money and not many offer a winder with the box i think it would be good if all makers include a  winder that way the box should at least get good use after all we are spending big money for these time keepers, i know some do offer this but not many what are all your thoughts on this. Hysek Colosso... 3 dimensional earth

Interesting 3D earth but I can't imagine how this all sits on the wrist... Watch design is getting weirder and weirder - not sure it's all for the better... COLOSSO is an extremely complicated watch; as hanged up in wheels Milky Way, a three dimensions' earth of 12mm diameter at 12 O'Clock turns on itself in 24 hours and can be set at the local time or at the GMT time. ...

Is there something you really..."Hate" ..about a watch you have owned?

Disappointment is often not far from pleasure and sometimes we make bad decisions and while the world’s best watch maker’s produce ever amazing and complicated fine pieces...there still seem to be some disappointments that bug us as end users. Is it the watch ...or is it our individual inability to operate it as designed. I have a “Pet Hate” with a watch I bought a couple of years ago from Breitling. It is the Crown...but I would not call it a crown... more a Dome. ...

What are your favorite watch features?

Watches today have many different types of complications and features. My favorite features/complications- Traditional, easy to read dial (40-42mm dial) - I appreciate the design behind regulators, jump hour and retrograde displays and other means of telling time, but I prefer the old-fashioned way of presenting the time.- Big Date - I'm over 40 so my eyes appreciate this feature more and more each day. I like the GO big dates the best (although I don't yet own one). I'm surprised this isn't a more common...

Possible sacrilege question.

I am ONLY THINKING about putting a glass back on my  AP 15002--just THINKING about it!!!The movement is pretty fantastic--and I'd love to see it more often. I guess this would 'ruin' the watch in terms of The Purist view...But I have a specific question: does a glass back always make a watch thicker? The thinness of this watch, to me, is a key element of its character.Just thinking!!! ...
