Genta history

 By: AndrewD : August 7th, 2009-18:43
Interestingly Gerald Genta, the man, was involved with a number of iconic designs in the 1970’s, some of which, like the Royal Oak , are clearly credited and others where the links are more obscure. These include the Patek Philippe Nautilus, the Bulgari-B...

Always enjoy seeing it.

 By: G99 : August 7th, 2009-15:19
have Omega cut your arm off to get it back so you cant type the review it matters not as its always good to see this classic Connie. the only Q i have on this is did GG design it or was it only the piepan he was involved in? best Graham

(sigh) . . . life sometimes gets in the way of the really . . .

 By: Dr No : August 7th, 2009-23:34
. . . important things like watch reviews, Graham . . . fortunately, Chromatic Fugue is pinch-hitting for me this Friday. Cordially, Art.

Ah, a lovely watch, Art.

 By: dxboon : August 7th, 2009-17:45
The RG against the black dial, the gently swooping lugs, the arrowhead markers...sigh. What's not to like? Daos

The best part of this watch is the connection . . .

 By: Dr No : August 7th, 2009-23:40
. . . with three of my fellow moderators: Bill Sohne, who let me acquire the watch, Nicolas, who placed the order for the strap at ABP, and Ming, who ferried the deployant to Paris so that it could be fitted to the strap. My thanks once again to all three...

What a great story, Art!

It's perfect, Alex!

 By: dxboon : August 7th, 2009-17:41
I love your watch! Hope you enjoy your weekend! Cheers, Daos

Alex, i assume from Nico's comment that your JLC is an original not re edition

 By: G99 : August 8th, 2009-06:31
in which case it is in marvellous condition considering that a lot of 60's dive watches actually got used for their correct purpose unlike todays desk divers. best Graham

It is, Graham

 By: AlexSunrise : August 8th, 2009-08:14
I bought it last October from the original owner who indeed carried out alot of water sports with it. It wasn't in as good in a shape as it is now but it wasn't bad either, and thanks to the capable hands of JLC Mexico, it was brought back to its full glo...

 By: G99 : August 8th, 2009-08:40
it was in pretty good order looking at your before pic. close ups always show things at their worst, most worse than they are in the flesh so good to stay away from them. its amazing what a light makeover can do. best Graham

Thanks, Daos!

..."That's HOT!" Um, I don't know what's sexier, the car or the watch! You know I love orange! Thanks for sharing, and here's my contribution for this week's thread -- a "destination" wristshot. Bonus points if anyone can pinpoint the location correctly. ...

Paris...Hilton, or Paris ...Paris, Daos? :)

 By: amanico : August 7th, 2009-13:58
Delicious shot... I'd say it was taken in Las Vegas? Right? Best, Nicolas

:-)

 By: dxboon : August 7th, 2009-17:15
Paris Hilton, Nicolas, not Paris, France. Good guess at the location of my watch, but you are not in the right state. Care to try again? *evil giggle* Daos

Cambria, CA ? :)

The Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle!

It does look like Caesar's Palace, but it isn't.

 By: patrick_y : August 8th, 2009-14:33
Nicolas, Daos has chosen a very special destination that is on the Californian Coastline and not entirely easy to guess as it is not an extremely famous destination for some. For those who want to guess; this beautiful pool (and immediate surrounding area...

Looks like you enjoyed the tour as much as I did! It's a grand location, isn't it? It's hard to imagine actually living someplace so spectacular! Cheers, Daos

I haven't been there since I was a wee lad...

 By: patrick_y : August 10th, 2009-22:08
But I'll probably visit the place again soon. Can't remember how grand it was, since I visited it so long ago, but I'm sure it is very impressive. I'm a big fan of castles. My favorite on the outside is still Neuschwanstein. And I've seen many very impres...

Hi Alex!

 By: dxboon : August 7th, 2009-17:19
You're close, but no cigar, as they say. Shall I give a hint? One word: "Rosebud." It's a quote from a famous film that is supposedly based on the life of the man who built the house where my watch was visiting in the photo. *wicked grin* HAGWE, my friend...

"Calling e.t.'...

..."et" (Elliott) would be all over this like a rash. It is the pool at 'San Simeon', the 'castle' built for Randolph Hearst which (if memory serves) has a fancy monogram tile pattern on the pool floor. What gives Daos? Cheers, pplater.

D'oh!...

San Simeon or Hearst Castle on the map. I should have a new watch to share next week. Stay tuned. Best, Tim

Thank you, Andrew

I'll look forward to your post. I'd love to find some more watch movement cuff links. Mine are nothing special, but I love wearing them just the same. Today was the first day I wore the new Polaris with a suit, and I liked dressing it up. HAGWE. respo
