Sorry for the interruption. I'm having issues with the photo uploader. Oh well. There are photos on my blog and my Flickr account. Just Google Grail Watch and SFoskett and you'll find me.

We were able to choose our own components for our ETA 6497-based watch:

- There were five faces, including two in white, one silver with guilloche (I picked this one) and two darker ones. All had Breguet numerals.
- Two different hand sets in two styles: Dauphane and Pomme in silver or black
- Four different cases: Black and gray PVD with integrated lugs and two silver with more traditional lugs
- Four straps: Black alligator with black or white stitching, white leather, or brown

I picked a very traditional Breguet look with the silver guilloche, black pomme hands, and silver case. It's odd that they offer such sporty options in addition - a 6497 really doesn't belong in a PVD case in my opinion.

Assembly was fairly limited. We attached the dial to the movement, placed the hands (most difficult), put the assembly into the case, and attached the straps. I would have preferred more instruction and hands-on time with the movement, especially since that's what the school teaches. But it was fun anyway.

My own watch!

Value for time and money?

 By: sfoskett : October 24th, 2014-07:37
Was it worth it? I say yes. The total cost was CHF 1,000 (about $1050) including the instruction and the watch components. As for the watch alone, it's not quite worth that. It's made of good components but the movement is basic and totally undecorated an...
