I know Ken and I know Bernard Cheong....
Jul 02, 2014,12:13 PM
A collector in my mind is someone who keeps fine tuning his collection to seek and reflect his belief.
Both Ken and Bernard are true gentleman should you have the opportunity to meet them, though they are just different 'species'.
Bernard happens to speak his mind loud and clear , allowing you to digest and absorb into his view, have a taste of the culture in his territory.
He is not someone who will flame anyone or who will pump any watches for the sake of himself.
He shares.....he tells you what he sees in his world and let you know how he feels.
We should try to listen and comprehend where he is coming from before jumping the gun.
If Bernard is not a sophisticated collector, I really do not think Ken's friend with 3 years of collecting experience qualifies either. Should you have seen Bernard's collection of other objects in his home and office, you will know that this guy is obsessed. He is very well studied on his subjects and can truly articulate the mechanical, economic and emotional bits of them all. The truth is he is willing to share and he likes to share.
I feel sorry that many of the 'newer' moderators here have not gotten the chance to know him further. One can truly learn alot from this guy, both in his wisdom of horological journey/history and simply about life.
I'm very humbled to have met this gentleman through this forum.
Cheers,
John
