HK is by far the largest export market for Swiss watches, somewhere in the region of 20%. The rest of China is now in 3rd. place I believe, just behind USA.
It makes perfect sense ($cents) to hold exhibitions where the buyers are located. I do not see this happening in other continents where GDP and Swiss watch imports are relatively small. In short, watch companies like other business concerns are geared towards maximising profits for their owners or shareholders and if they please a few watch aficionados along the way, it's an added bonus but not their primary concern.
They will continue with LE's and special editions as long as there is market demand and the capacity to produce them. If there is an over supply of them and stock are sitting on the shelves, their strategy will quickly change I think.
