Presenting the winners of the GRAND PRIX D’HORLOGERIE ASIA 2009

Sep 28, 2009,01:39 AM

On Friday last week, the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie Asia 2009, organised by Edipresse who also bring us the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve, culminated with a gala dinner during which the winners of the contest were presented. They are:

Watch of the Year: A. Lange & Sohne Richard Lange Pour le Mérite

Men's Watch: A. Lange & Sohne Richard Lange Pour le Mérite

Ladies' Watch: Richard Mille RM019 Celtic Knot

Complication Watch: Greubel Forsey Quadruple Tourbillon à Différentiel Sphérique

Design: Urwerk CC1

Sports Watch: Urwerk 103T Tarantula

Jewellery Watch: Cartier Panthere Secrete de Cartier

The winners were selected by a panel of judges consisting of collectors from various Asian countries, representing a spectrum of actual watch buyers and aficionados.

The image below shows the finalists in each category, click on it for the full size picture. And yes there is an error with the image of the AP Survivor, it shows the Bumblebee instead.

More details on the contest procedures and judges soon once the post-event press release is out.

Full disclosure: I was on the steering and nominating committees of the contest, as well as non-voting chairman of the jury.

To have an idea of how hard Massi and SJX had to work, one can first imagine the ground rule: ALL watchesand time works made between Sep 2008 to 2009 that were presented to the public as complete, were sampled and judged. From Casios and Seikos...to Patek...

Is it humanly possible

Without Bernard Cheong, Massimiliano Landi and of course Gilbert Cheah who is managing director of Edipresse Singapore, the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie would not have occurred at all. They, along with the nominating committee and jury, deserve high praise for...

Logistics, logistics, and more logistics...

The logistics of setting up a judging panel such as this one is very difficult and to educate all the non-partial judges about the candidate watches is something that is supremely difficult. From what you've stated regarding the judges are not from the wa...

You hit the nail on the head

Logistics were tough. That being said, most of the judges required very little education, in fact almost none at all, given their knowledge. For example, the watches owned by some of the members of the nominating committee and jury range from various MB&a...

Daunting task indeed!

Although the sports (especially) and design are a little puzzling to my mind. I would have also voted for the RM018 in the Jewelry section, but then, thats me! Thanks again Andrew H

Great achievement, congrats

I guess, there will always be an insatiable need to make award and prices. It is fun and interesting to observe what is regarded as the best of the best in the Asian part of the world, and I am sure it must have have cost a good deal of hard work. As for ...
