To have an idea of how hard Massi and SJX had to work, one can first imagine the ground rule:
ALL watchesand time works made between Sep 2008 to 2009 that were presented to the public as complete, were sampled and judged.
From Casios and Seikos...to Pateks and Langes and Greubels...even the Atmos clock..
Yes, some fantastic machines may have been "missed", but that was also a parameter...as to how well the product "penetrated the field of awareness" of the jury.
To assemble a jury of a caliber of knowledge and purchasing power that we wanted to sample...ie..a jury very much that would belong in the forms of thePuristS...or higher.
The jurors came from people who were in the Forbes 500, retired CEOs, museum curators...all non industry, non press and with a minimum of experience settled by the steering comittee to balance a certain sample cut of the market.
To even GET responses from these men and women, who are incredibly busy people, who would normally not return a phone call, excpet by a secretary, not to mention that they would not have time to read/post here on the purists..except for 1..
This is the first time the scope was so challenging and wide.
Last year, we had to judge from the preselected geneva watches. This year, the contest had NO EXCLUSIONS...everyone was "judged..no winners by default".
Although not "perfect", with the constrainst of mainly TIME...it was VERY time consuming...and budget...and working for NO monetery gains...it was a great job by SJX (Chairman of the Jury) and Massi ( protocols and procedures Chairman)...incredible!!!
We learnt a lot, and for what it is worth...to get into the list of the TOP 7 for any watch, was a win.
Omega Ploprof was my favorite...and altho it did not win a first prize, it appeared in several top 7 categories.
Even the Seiko!
Looking thru the list, and later how the finalists of over 300 watches ....it is a well of information for marketing studies.
