"Air-time" etc.

Hi Oliver

  • Air-time: My AP RO "Karl" (the black one) gets the most airtime of those 5/6. Main reasons being that it is very wear-able (thin, light) yet robust (bracelet has very little stretch). It is classy, a design icon yet freaky with its black color and patina. Second in this line-up would be the PP Nautilus: very comfortable to wear, robust yet: MINT (means: I need to be veeeeeeeery careful). Third is the Ingenieur. I just love this clean design and the dial with its micro structures is just the best of all in my view. It is however very bulky and given the fact that it is somewhere between Mint and NOS the bracelet has zero stretch which makes it a bit sturdy.
  • Precision: that's a clear one with the Ingenieur being the absolute record holder. All my watches are in a bank safety deposit. Generally I go once a week there to bring a watch back and to get another beauty for the next week. The Ingenieur - after one week of daylight - goes back usually with 1-2 second deviation. That is 1 to 2 seconds a week. I personally think that this is crazy. And I like crazy.
  • Daily beater: I do not have "the daily beater" (see above re. weekly visit at bank safe deposit). Today I wear an IWC Ocean 2000 "Bund" AMAG. I quite  like the IWC titan chrono and ocean from the early 80ies. I love my 1966 Breguet XX Type, my 1953 Breitling AVI 765 "digital minute"; the Longines diver 7592-3 from 1968 is a robust and beautiful watch that I wear regularly as well as one of my various early and rare Speedys, in particular the 2998-3 with Lollipop hand from 1961. Generally speaking I am more at ease with wearing the ones which are not too much NOS/Mint for obvious reasons. (Un-)fortunately I have a lot which are NOS/Mint. But they all get their fair share of day-light.

Thanks for your interest.

I love those ultra-thin (except IWC Ingenieur 1832), super-deluxe, experimental design (at the time), rare full steel Jumbo watches from the 70ies. It is particularly the classy "steel case - steel bracelet - black dial" combination that I like but I have...

Great photo and collection HSTE! Iconic watches and designs. I agree with what was mentioned, the IWC YC II by far the least talked about and often overlooked one in this series. But such a cool watch, and on top actually the rarest of all (as automatic, ...
