A couple of quick answers

Apr 26, 2010,11:12 AM

Regarding the broader list vs the shorter list in question 3-5 the idea was that subset represented a range across the major houses like Richemont etc. and the idea was that is more a brand recall rather than recognition.  The focus to hone in on the high-end of luxury  and omega played the Rolex role to not bias the results while still have that segment represented.    While the broad list was to set up the subset and the broad list though they had more names still covered the range in the subset.

Ratings ratings damn ratings.  I wish there too was a better way to represent the spectrum.  I guess you follow polling rules and models and they don't seem to have it right either.

I would love to have the perfect poll so it is all trial and error.   Hopefully the next poll with the members participation will shed new light.

I hope this doesn't add confusion.  Now we have to come up with some interesting findings from the poll  that will obviously take some time but it should be fun.

Bill

Purpose of the survey?

 By: Tick Talk : April 25th, 2010-17:54
I can recognize some marketing questions but can you please explain what your purpose and intentions are with this survey? Is Purists intending to encourage the named luxury brands to adopt Internet storefronts in addition to bricks and mortar? That would...

No real deep undertone

 By: Bill : April 25th, 2010-18:01
Just a small poll to get a feel for things out in the online sales world hence the lightness of the questions. The landscape of distribution is not going to change anytime soon. Down the road we can expand and use the poll tool a little more so all ideas ...

Questions are not all very clear

 By: NoMilkToday : April 26th, 2010-00:53
Bill, I did not mind participating and I am very surprised with the results. I always thought Patek owners to be a small minority and Rolex owners to be the big majority. My thoughts were false. Two questions: 1) why is only a subset of brands mentioned i...

Same problem for me!

 By: anaesdoc : April 26th, 2010-02:10
Questions 10 to 15 were tricky (very high/low impact on my willingness to pay/buy online). I got confused and also chose the safer middle section . Reminded me of our MC questions for being admitted as a med student. Hope, I´m a better doctor than MC...

Has the "Big 3" changed now?

 By: AnthonyTsai : April 25th, 2010-20:03
Big 3 used to be Patek, AP, and Vacheron Has Vacheron been usurped by Lange? So today's popular vote, the Big 3 is now Patek, AP, and Lange? That's what the results show right now at 222 votes! Cheers, Anthony

I noticed that too....

 By: moc : April 26th, 2010-16:24
Lange is growing and growing in the common knowledge, still maybe in the watch lovers knowledge but it s expanding.I don t have any doubt in thinking that Lange will be top 3 in the near future and its watches will have bigger recognition in auctions and c...

I'm also surprised how poorly Omega faired in Question #2

Are you measuring what people think, or what watch afficienados think they should think...? Good questionnaire design would trap point like this. nick

Agreed

This survey is targeted at likely players

 By: Bill : April 27th, 2010-08:56
It would not provide nearly as valid a result set if we went out on the street and surveyed random people who have never hear of Patek. The sampling here is key and getting a qualified audience, and audience most likely to be part of the segment is the ke...

The results are intereesting, but I too agree with having participated that certain questions were confusing. I don't think some of your responses have an accurate reflection of true intent for that reason. I personally would have liked more choices for t...
