Writers of a specialist persuasion often convey their message drawn from memories and sentiments..I wore my Seiko thru all of these events...just musing over how sentimental a watch can be..

This, my own watch..sure went with me thru a whole lot of muddy histry...enjoy...and keep your watch well!!!

Vietnam 1973

I watched this on TV as a student in Singapore (black & white tv)

On March 15, 1973, U.S. President Richard Nixon implied that the U.S. would intervene militarily if the communist side violated the ceasefire. During his confirmation hearings in June 1973, Secretary of Defense James R. Schlesinger stated that he would recommend resumption of U.S. bombing in North Vietnam if North Vietnam launched a major offensive against South Vietnam. On June 4, 1973, the U.S. Senate passed the Case-Church Amendment to prohibit such intervention.

The oil price shock of October 1973 caused significant damage to the South Vietnamese economy.

My mum and dad bought me this Seiko then..my FIRST good wristwatch!

Champion again 1974

I skipped classes to watched this fight!!

In one of the biggest upsets in boxing history, Ali regained his title on October 30, 1974 by defeating champion George Foreman in their bout in Kinshasa, Zaire. Hyped as "The Rumble In The Jungle,"

Stallone 1975

After beating Foreman, Ali would have a successful string of title defenses. In March 1975, Ali faced Chuck Wepner in a bout that inspired the original Rocky. While it was largely thought that Ali would dominate, Wepner surprised everyone by not only knocking Ali down in the ninth round, but nearly going the distance. Ali eventually stopped Wepner in the fading minutes of the 15th round, but Wepner's display of courage and resilience gave Sylvester Stallone, then an aspiring writer, actor and director, the basis of the plot for the first of the Rocky franchise.

Rocky 1976

I saw this damn show and it was good!

Rocky is a 1976 film written by and starring Sylvester Stallone and directed by John G. Avildsen. It tells the rags-to-riches American Dream story of Rocky Balboa, an uneducated but good-hearted debt collector for a loan shark in Philadelphia. Balboa is also a club fighter who gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship when the scheduled contender breaks his hand.

Nikon FM  1977

I bought this camera and I thought it was the cat's whiskers!

Nikon's first successful application in introducing a compact size SLR to replace the mechanical Nikkormat FT series. Improvements include an Ai-metering, usable with both non-Ai and Ai-Nikkor lenses. A dedicated Motor Drive MD-11 (replaced with subsequent 1980's MD-12 ) to handle 3.5 fps automatic film advance; has a capability for multiple exposures which even works in conjunction with the respective motor drives; an easy to use depth of field preview & self timer feature was added. Shutter speeds range from 1 sec to 1/1000sec and sync at 1/125 sec.

A-10 Thunderbolt II 1978

I built the model kit from Tamiya!!!

Took me two weeks to get the paint right!!

Developed to to provide close air support of ground forces by attacking tanks, armored vehicles, and other ground targets, the A-10 is more commonly known by its nickname "Warthog".

The A-10 is scheduled to stay in service with the USAF until 2028. In 2005, the entire A-10 fleet also began receiving upgrades that would result in redesignation to the "C" model that will include improved fire control system (FCS), electronic countermeasures (ECM), and the ability to carry smart bombs. The A-10 will be part of a service life extension program (SLEP) with many receiving new wings. A contract to build 242 new A-10 wing sets was awarded to Boeing on 29 June 2007.

ARPANET officially changes to use the Internet Protocol, (creating) the Internet .  1983

What began as a Cold War project to create a communications network that was immune to a nuclear attack. In the 1969, the U.S. government created ARPANET, connecting four western universities and allowing researchers to use the mainframes of any of the networked institutions.

In 1985, the National Science Foundation improved the system when it funded the NSFNET.  This had a backbone of five supercomputer centers to serve as highways for all the data traffic.  The centers were Princeton University, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of California in San Diego, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Cornell University.

In 1991, NSF first allowed commercial use of the Internet.  In 1995, NSF removed its funding completely, leaving the Internet a self-supporting industry.
