dear Andrew,
as you we all know here,we all have our weakness and champions in the futile world of watch collecting.
I ve been pondering about this CO for a couple of days, trying not to get my feelings about FPJ as a brand into my judgement,a constant mixed of emotions that as a non-owner I can not endorse as yet.
I like some of Journe watches a lot, really do so much that I ve been contemplating adding FPJ to my stable at some point(the black label CS is my favourite in the "affordable"category),so I am not a detractor tout court at all.
Aestetically the watch is not pleasant to me as many other FPJ(resonance being my fav,and the mighty tourbillon)The layout is not armonious, that power reserve clashes too much with the wording(always excessive but lets move on..),quite a bad design job if you ask me as it seems that the red accent on the PR is squashed in between words..
What I can t get my head around though is how could we ever call a watch a chronometer (and build up a whole concept and movement around it)if it doesn t hack!I have to marry Blunotte fundamentalism here,I just do not get it.
To me to be a chronometer it must be based on a reference, what is the point of a pirotecnical escapement, double second hands, remonitoir, bells and whistles ,if I can t......simply set it?Unless I invent an acrobatic empirical way to do it like you described for your tourbillon. To me that is the main priciple.
The GO Senator you mentioned is a perfect example,it hacks ,zero reset and you can click theminute hand exactly to the minute marker...all features that should be present in a chronometer.
Now you may say I am biased but also JLC attempt to a chronometer with the Duometre a QL has a double hacking features and zero reset for both its second hands,so you can set it correctly.
What s the point for a device to be perfctly working if there is not a standard you can compare it with?It may as well be spot on ,but it runs on its own ,regardless of the "actual" world reference...maybe we can spot a glimpse of mr Journe personality in here
Lasly, how does the second hand on the back work(my favourite aestetic feature by the way,I was always a sucker for FPJ backsides)?
I still do not get it but is it just attache to the remonitoir?thats why it runs anticlockwise?Isn t this just a little gimmick? We could then attach an hand on any gear on the back of a watch and see them running anticlockwise?
Sorry for the rant,I am trying to shed more light into this watch.
Great report though....
Thanks
Mo
