Great review, Malik. Thanks!

Clear and helpful summary of the Optimum's main features and I can feel your passion for the piece coming through in your writing. Great to read that.

Like you I think the Optimum is a very important piece from Journe. As well as the mechanical credentials, it has some interesting and even quirky design features that many people will find themselves terminally enamoured with.

One comment is that if Journe had put the dead seconds display on the front of the watch then it would have turned clockwise. Perhaps it would have been interesting to have both the 3Hz and 1Hz displays of the escapement and remontoir on display in the front of the watch, but I like this quirky 'compromise'.

And putting a 42mm watch into the range is so smart. We now have 38mm, 39mm, 40mm and 42mm options. Something to suit every wrist.

Thanks again.

Andrew

A few days ago, Geoffrey Ader knocked-down the George Daniels Space-Dweller at Sotheby's for the astronomical price of 1.6 million CHF. This pocket watch which displays the solar time as well as the sidereal time features a double escapement device, a spe...

I like technical desciptions as it is a very important part of what made me love watches. But when it came to Remontoir d'egalité or Echappement naturel, I had a little difficulty in really understanding the way it worked, especially as those watchmakers ...

Thanks Mark... You know, watchmakers, live in the world of... Watchmakers.

It's not the world of the horological business (that don't interest me), and not in the world of the watch addict. The Press Kit from FP Journe is really good (this is quite rare), but you need a good technical level to fully understand it. Here, I male s...

I believe that only the 42mm Oprimum's have been doing the rounds. I expect the bezel on the 40mm to be thinner than this, but I may be wrong. So, with thanks to Douglas Adams, I believe the answer is 42. But what was the question?! :-) "Now," said Deep T...
