The analogy that comes to mind is team sports. There are cases of highly talented athletes - Yasiel Puig, for example - whose character or personality traits do more damage to the team than their contributions on the field warrant. Bernard's participation here was similarly problematic. His expulsion was uniformly agreed upon by all members of the moderating staff as well as ownership.
You have no idea how far backwards we bent to accommodate him. Let it suffice there were also issues beyond his online participation.
He is undoubtedly a charming person in real life; no one questions his depth of knowledge, sincerity, and acuity on all matters horological. But he wasn't able to abide by the fundamental tenet that participation here should be conducted as though one were at an actual cocktail party.
