Hublot BB is more exciting and sexy, Breguet Marine is akin to Gentlemen's sportswatch

Other then similar pricing and being lumped together in "sports watch" category, they are quite different.

The Breguet is a real scratch magnet and unyielding, but it has lotsa of presence, and a bigger date window. Also a point not very much discussed here, but a constant consideration for me....fakes...Breguet Marine, not that many fakes.

The Hublot is more sexy and fun. I don't know which one are you talking about, but Hublot competes in the space of oversized sport watches and it's more direct competition is the AP Royal Oak Offshores. The fact that you didn't bring up the AP ROO, hints to me you currently own one, or had some ownership experience? I am a fan of the Royal Oak, not so much the Offshore, but some are great. The Hublot BB is set to become a classic IMHO, but you must live with it's constant reinterpretation and variants, from material science to limited edition marketing....I know MANY Hublot owners who are turned off by this constant non stop limited edition marketing, myself included. I have sold off all my Hublots, keeping just the Manchester United and am on the list for another Manchester United watch, so I guess the marketing crap does worksmile- however much we rubbish it. Also, there seems to be an increasing number of Hublot fakes, not good copies, but from a short distance, can't really tell. Hublot is a victim of it's own success here, and not helping themselves by having so many variants that the fakes out there can easily create something, and no one knows for the better!!!

Movements wise, I don't think they are of great merit for either, and the Hublot is probably machined finished, whilst I can't comment on the Breguet since I never owned a Marine before.

Practical considerations like power reserve, complications one get for the same price, even material. That could be your ultimate deciding factor.

Best,

Horo

Hi Looking for a versatile watch that is robust and in rubber strap. Have narrowed down to the Breguet Marine 5817 in silver dial and Hublot Big bang 41mm steel and ceramics as I have small wrist. Both are similar in size and price. Which would you choose...

Hublot in general and that one in particular does nothing for me. YMMV. Best, Andreas

I have to add I have never owned a Hublot .....

but I have admired them from afar. .... my opinion is somewhat bias to Breguet. I will keep an open mind as always. Best Bill

I am biased.

Disclaimer: I am Hublot forum moderator.... I have owned Breguet Marine but let it go soon after. Didn't want to get it scratched by using it as weekend or off-time watch - I thought that it was not for really go-anywhere, do-anything. If you don't mind t...

In my humble opinion Marine is far away

from being the nicest Breguet. Anyhow, it is a real Braguet and the history of horology is much related with the name Breguet. Hublot is something very new... But in the end it depends what you appreciate. Nice problem for Christmas. Enjoy it! Best, Kari

In my far youth, I liked the Big Bong. :)))

But when it comes to watches, well, I would go for the Breguet. But the choice is in your hands: Try both of them, and you will know. Best, Nicolas.

Or a Rasta Milgauss! :))) [nt]

How did you guys find out about the Big Bonk? It's a super secret project

Using recycled rubberized contraception, that is HARDER and LONGER LASTING then the regular vulcanized rubber, yet it wraps around the wrist like rubber gloves, and it is a fusion of different grades of rubber, but the end result is you get HALF the usual...

After that I would probably buy any watches. As long as it's green. Oh yes don't forget the chocolate ... you need lots of chocolates, the sweet one. Like the delicious tropical dial ... ... Sorry I talk too much Regards Tyler

You're a true friend. :) [nt]
