 By: watchthatman : August 17th, 2014-08:55
Hello fellow purists! Lately I've been thinking about getting a beater watch that I will enjoy wearing. I'm looking fir something that can take a beating if I go cycling, dancing or knock it around otherwise. Probably a used piece that I won't mind nickin...

Something with amazing value for the money ... ... offers very solid beater qualities so far ;-) Of course there are more beaters out there, but I donĀ“t know you and your budget. Oliver ...

Funny, I actually came across this seiko. It's for sure

a very affordable option. I'm on the fence about the diver look, but i suspect may be the sturdiest designs. I was considering explorer for a lot more money than the seiko due to cosmetics. Thanks!

IMHO, you can't go wrong with an Omega ...

If you do n ot want it too sportive, as the diving watch shown above, the new Master Aquaterra, with its unique antimagnetic capacity, is a very good product: Marcus ...

How is omega for reliability and ruggedness?

That last one with the orange looks great! And so shiny. Will probably scratch up well! Was looking at a seamaster great white GMT. May be too pretty to beat.

There is one which has proven beater qualities in extremis...

One suggestion if you chose the youg-timer: Omega Speedmaster 145.022 with the Omega 861 engine (this particular one has a chocolate dial) If you Chose a contemporary make, I'd recommend Sinn, the Frankfurt manufacturer. Top Price/Quality Ratio. This is m...

Great offerings at the moment at realistic prices. My current favourite is the Black Bay Blue which I have worn for everything including scuba diving... They look very cool too... Good luck! Cheers Andrew ...

Tudor crossed my mind. No chance yet to see the blue.

I tried on the red, and I loved it except for some gold accents on the indices. Felt like a deal breaker to me.

Tudor is a great choice

Collectible, lower priced, and the new models are very cool. And the house of Rolex...

Another Seiko

 By: jml_watches : August 20th, 2014-08:08
Hi How about a military type Seiko 5. Cheap as chips , reliable and able to take the odd knock or two. As others have suggested you can't really go wrong with a Seiko. Cheers JML ...

Knocking around

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : August 21st, 2014-01:43
Why wear a watch if you know that you are going to knock it around?? And if needed: why not a simple plastic watch like a G shock or similar? As for dancing etc; shouldn't you just wear your 'normal' watch? Why safe-queen them? Isn't the point of having a...

It largely is aesthetic, plus not having a feel

for how much abuse some of these gorgeous watches can take. It's also that I'm crazy, as are many out here, and obsessed with watches. As far as G Shock, I have a couple, and they're largely illegible. They're what I wear when I exercise. They're also fai...

well in that case

I would go for a Omega or Rolex (second hand?). Maybe boring. Or you know what? What about a Sarpaneva K0 ? That would make a very cool beater would it not? Personally I have changed my mind about daily beater watches. At the moment I'm using my most valu...

I like the way you think! That really opens things up.

That's a very nice beater you're wearing!

I'd have a hard time leaving it in a safe place too!

Beaters are different for everyone

 By: Mostel : August 26th, 2014-20:21
For myself, I tried wearing genuinely low priced watches as beater. It seemed reasonable. But once you really collect and love fine watches, your beater needs to have some relation to them. Rolex will always have a relation to any fine watch, even one 100...

Thanks Mostel! I really enjoyed your discussion. Especially what you said about the feel.

I'm leaning towards the Speedmaster Pro. It looks great, and it feels effortless on my wrist!

Good posts...

...this is my beater, recently acquired...very happy with it ! The scratches (invisible on dodgy rob-spec pic) already picked up in a few weeks of wearing attest to it's beater-ness ! ...

Beater Update

 By: watchthatman : September 25th, 2014-18:10
So, I settled on a speedie pro, however, something else caught my eye, something on the dressy side, and the speedy pro is on hold for now. In the meantime, I purchased a seiko 5 automatic, and it's really growing on my. It's got a black face, fairly simp...
