I cannot stand that first watch. I know it had to come, but I absolutely HATE these gigantic, strangely shaped watches.
I don't want a UFO on my wrist, some people do. I want something elegant, but not so classic, it's stodgy.
My first choice of wear- the 10 Hz Breguet. The fact that the brand continues to execute the eccentric dials of the original
maker's style perfectly, as evidenced here, with no superfluous idiotic markings, makes it pure, and not an eyesore to me.
You get classic idiosyncratic looks, with the deftly hidden chronometric 10 Hz advantage. WANT. Certain it will never be in
my price range though.
2- Halidman H11. I still think the idea behind the H9 was absurd, but this is nice. I get why the H9 had to happen, but this
is what watchmaking should be- simplicity with perfect execution. I would definitely wear this.
3- Urwerk. They are the only company in my mind that does non-tradtional shaped cases properly. They aren't enomous,
or ridiculous looking. That particular Urwerk, to me, really does evoke a sort of shark on the wrist, very contemporary, even
futuristic, but not ridiculous. Defined, clean lines. Stealth without overtly trying to be. I'd love one of these for daily wear.
Honorable mention- GP. They are really doing it right lately, simplifying their lines, yet modernizing them, while keeping the
1945 and 1966 lines going. They have all corners, and this new escapement is a phenomenal true technical achievement
few brands in the world could even pull off. I just don't care for the look of the face somehow. But GP is truly trimming their
offerings properly and doing what they are doing very, very well.
