Part 19 of 33 Collecting alternatives that I tried versus watches

 By: bernard cheong : April 23rd, 2012-02:27
No Kidding...here is a harmless game, which for once your wife will not say no. I tried, and suceeded in filling a case with $100,000 USD. The only bad thing is, I did it in 1999. So I lost quite a bit of money!!!! But, it is still damned nice to look at!...

Three interesting propositions

But for me the watches would be the most satisfying!

In this day, that box of watches is the most stable.

 By: bernard cheong : April 23rd, 2012-16:55
Everything inside, I bought, has increased, but if I resell...I may break even, or gain a few dollars.

If..if I can keep this box of watches untouched till 2023

 By: bernard cheong : April 23rd, 2012-16:59
I am sure that my returns on resale will be better than the gold and cash. To make it more attractive, I get to enjoy the hard earned money. To be fair, it sounds silly, but I do enjoy looking at the cash and the gold bars...but it was dumb when I took th...

great timing

I was trying ot think of an alternative to collecting... I like all three... and maybe I should attempt a more scaled down version! OpC

I will start with the cash.

 By: bernard cheong : April 23rd, 2012-17:01
Then when it hits $12,000, seal the box. Then move to the next $100,000...then buy watch or watches..and a box. Finally..the gold. That's hard...I sold one car to do that.

The crazy collections of dr.Cheong

This collection does not reveal how and what happens in the journey to build the gold and the watch collection...it will bring you to...Everest base camp 1 on a bet, below the amazing night sky of the north pole, on both the carriers of the Reagan and the...

I took my salary..$2,300 for the month..and changed it to $1 bills, and filled a briefcase with it. I was a young 26 yr old doc at a hospital then.

Love it...!!! :o)

I had looked into a small gold bar but you don't get much for your money these days with the price being so high...maybe when the price drops I'll treat myself. Is the LV watch box a standard box from them or do you get them custom made..? Yours, Andy.

I highly recomend this LV box..it is part of their line

 By: bernard cheong : April 23rd, 2012-16:54
The prices are extremely variable. From $4000 which is what I paid, to $7000 which is what it is in many stores. Cheapest is in Paris. I have 3 full sized LV trunks. From 1945 to 2006 to 2009. And this is my 4th...and it is a real miniature of their work....

I'll go with the suitcase full of money

 By: xsw : April 23rd, 2012-10:16
it's a classic, just like in the movies.

YES....!!!!

 By: bernard cheong : April 23rd, 2012-17:08
And from that..you have all options..but make sure that it does not get caught in devaluation.

hang on, I think I'll go with Gold!

 By: xsw : April 23rd, 2012-21:56
Dig up the ground and bury it! a treasure hunter classic. Imagine the anticipation as you're digging them up years later. That's how a pirate would roll with theirs. YAR!

Hey...please don't bury gold bars

 By: bernard cheong : April 24th, 2012-17:47
Gold bullion bars come with VERY complex certificates...worse, far worse, than a panarai, with box, outer box, papers and all!!! It comes with a record of how it was stored and when and who and how it was serviced!!! This is for the 10 kilobar. The type u...

Man..I am almost ashamed to be chinese when I see these things.

I have a proposition

 By: sidneyc : April 23rd, 2012-15:15
Bernard, when you're tired of cash and gold bars, perhaps try filling the suitcase with diamonds instead hehe.. That'll make the exercise last that little bit longer Fun exercise to do, I might have a go with our $5 bills haha! And yes out of the 3 the wa...

Funny..that is EXACTLY what I did try.

 By: bernard cheong : April 23rd, 2012-17:11
Uncut but cheaper diamonds. What happened was that up to about $28,000 usd of those, I made a sale of $34,000 because of 3 stones that I got. I think I had about 7 stones, small and smaller. So I liquidated my position.

Good man!

 By: sidneyc : April 23rd, 2012-18:27
Great that you've made a profit on them in such a short time! Even though it would have been easier to get approval from your wife to let go of the gold bars than the diamonds I suppose? Love the crazy ideas you could come up with!!

Bernard, beware!

 By: ling5hk : April 23rd, 2012-17:53
Your Government may mistakenly think that you are potentially doing money laundering business. But, I have to agree that the satisfaction of holding USD100,000 cash in hands is greater that holding a USD1million cheque. Regards Ling

Yah..in doing cash payment business..like selling hawker food

 By: bernard cheong : April 23rd, 2012-17:59
We get used to holding $100,000 in bags. In Singapore, it is less safe nowadays. I bank it in within 12 hours. AND...most important..INCOME tax is paid full and even in excess, slightly. I refuse to claim donations...at least the small ones.

Nice...
