Thanks: Some Thoughts

Thanks for commenting.

I really am quite torn between the two watches for different reasons.

I like the GO for its elegant design, movement, its execution and finish. It is not really a dress watch in that it is too large at 42 mm and it really has the elements of a historic German deck watch. It is an homage to timekeeping. The hacking mechanism and the milled chapter ring are very unique features. A watch that likely <1000 have been made since it has been in production. Uniqueness of the piece is attractive to me.

The Day-Date is not a piece of haute horlogerie, but a ubiquitous cultural symbol of success, beautifully crafted albeit a robust, high-production watch. A watch that could be worn daily in terms of its robustness. I like it because it in white gold, it is a bit under the radar and not the typical in-your-face "gold Rolex" and like very few other watches it is styled for the ages. It is a watch however that tens of thousands are sold yearly. I suppose its price is justified due to the bracelet which in itself costs a fortune in gold.

The WIS in me believes the GO is the clear choice, but the simplicity and the robustness of the Day-Date still has me curious. I will go try both on. I am also still toying with a Patek Gondolo 5124G, but the short crown for winding causes some pause.

Two very different choices: GO or a Rolex?

Hi, In my prior post regarding gold manual wind watch, we looked at a GO, PP and VC. I think after some reflective thought, he GO is my favorite between these choices. Now, lets consider a different comparison. This watch should lean more dressy/casual/ev...

For me, the choice would be the GO. Mainly because the finishing is better, IMO, it allows you to see the beauty of the inner works and art which is the movement and the dial is better balanced with the sundials, big date and blued hands. The Rolex just l...

GO!

The only reason I'd choose the Rolex is if I really worried about the water resistance. In both appearance and technical refinement, GO wins w/o question A

Have you tried on both? I haven't. But first impressions on this post sway me to the Rolex even though I find the GO to be more beautiful. The bracelet is a compelling factor for me. The oyster case and cyclops as well altough people don't seem to like da...

GO all the way...

Most simple, I am not a Rolex guy. I far prefer the road less traveled, so to speak. Owned GO's in the past. Love them.

G.O, by far. [nt]

ROLEX. But why: Because you are not sure what to buy. If you would be crazy about the other, you would not ask for advice and because you ask for advice, you are not sure... If you buy a watch you do not want to keep, Rolex is easier to trade or convert i...

Great answer.....

Robustness for daily wear

 By: scott7 : March 15th, 2013-13:04
If this watch is to be worn one month out of the year within a rotation, why is "robustness for daily wear" even a factor in your consideration? It's not as if ALL of the watches you have been considering aren't robust enough for daily wear; after all, th...

the Rolex stands out like a sore thumb to 99% of the worlds population

 By: G99 : March 15th, 2013-13:06
therefore i would go for the GO which is a more restrained watch. A gold Rolex President just screams out to everyone, flash, money and is the archytypal watch worn by people who like that sort of thing. from every post you have ever made i dont think you...

Here, I don't have any hesitation: GO

easy

Such an easy answer without one millisecond of hesitation - The Glashutte.

Most definitely the GO....

.... It's an work of art, and the zero-reset and minute detent function seals the deal.
