Another Splendid Report!

Thanks Kong for another splendid report. I really like the way you include questions that were asked during the event. This allowed folks who were not there to better appreciate the interactions between the presenter and participants. I appreciate those questions you have asked because it sets me thinking and not just reading.

To add to your point about having round movements, I guess being "managers", it is a less risky option that allow possible extension to other future product line thus improving the ROI.

I tend to agree that for design concepts , a "top-down" approach is more feasible. For the "mass market" customers, all they may want is a good-looking watch that has high branding (more marketing $$$) and for the "prudent" customers, their opinions may be too fragmented. And if it is bias towards any opinion, the "soul" of the product may be diluted or lost. As one marketing guru says, it is better to have a lousy product that is highly differentiated than a good product that cannot be differentiated.

IMO the DA Vinci with the round stepped case is highly differentiated (iconic) and the new Da Vinci with the barrel case is no doubt good-looking (plus an in-house movement). smile

Best regards,

Russell

The topic for the day (6 November 2007 at SWA) was a refreshing and interesting one. Instead of topic on technicality, it was about the aesthetic conceptualisation and design of the IWC's Vitruvian Masterpiece. I thought this could be of some interests to...

and superb to see how a new model comes to life. In general I am not a great fan of round watches, but in this case I still like the first round version better, I may have to get used to it but a portrait of Mr. Klaus on the back is a bit much to me. Geo

Nicely done, Kong . . .
