1st service at PP
my ("garde temps" what a dreadful name for a watch.....) 5130 is with PP for service and this is the 1st time i do it with PP then i have a couple of questions before i revert to them
as compulsory they list hands and crown. is it normal practice? crown why not if tehre is a defect but hands? personnaly i have not noticed any defect/default. do they give spare parts back ?

from PP boutique in Paris. they give hands and crown back if required it is additional charges (ie not included in full service)

Bogus explanation
Hands do not oxidize from the sun. Oils and lubricants may deterioriate, in part thanks to the UV in sunlight + heat, lume may be affected - but that's about it.
It is good that they change the hands...
because they are press fitted and once taken out they would be permanently deformed because they are so thin. Reusing the hands can result in a loose fit thus the hands can even fall out. This will be very annoying and would require sending the watch back...
