and as the tools one uses so often reflect the quality of the work one does, this is very impressive.  Keep up the good work and if you have a little extra time one of these days I could use a nice lathe.

Horology studies are not only how to repair, clean... a caliber but create your own tools too ;-)

Here a little tool to raise the hands of a dial. Made in micro mechanical today. I know it is not perfect but I am just a student ;-) So nice to learn new things!!! Best wishes Alkiro ...

Beautiful!

It says a lot about your work ethic when the tools you create are as impressive as the timepiece you service. Should you make another, I would certainly consider purchasing to add to my modest set of watchmaking tools!

Thank you very much for these kind words

You know, if you could see the ones of my teacher... you would be in ecstasy. They are twice smaller and so perfect. To be honest, I broke the second one in a lathe :-( Our teacher owns a firm where he restored old clocks from the 18th century mainly. He ...

Very cool! :)

Looking forward to see your progress! Best Blomman

Unfortunately, it was our last lesson today for this specific field (micro mechanical) when you are in first year :-(

What a shame because it was really interesting to create its own tools (screwdrivers...). We will begin to study a new subject (materials) after summer holidays and, of course, we will continue to oil, grease, adjust calibers )) Best wishes Alkiro

You should become our official tool supplier :)

Can we place orders directly with you?

Well, it would be a great honour trust me

If you are patient, I am not expensive ;-) Best wishes Alkiro

Well done !

Amazing to see what skills can do to transform a bare rod into a truly amazing tool, well done!

Thank you ;-)

That is gorgeous

did you do the knurling as well? Ondrej

Absolutely. And it is not the most complicated part (the most difficult one is to create the largest notch with a file because it must not be too deep, must be flat, same thickness everywhere...)

 By: Alkiro1 : July 12th, 2016-14:54
You put your tool into a lathe. Then, you take a kind of tongs (sorry but I do not know the exact name in English) with three rotating discs with "structure". You do not forget to put oil before positioning your tong. After that, you launch your lathe and...

Thank you for clearing that up,

i understand the knurling procedure and while i prefer milled knurling, it is really hard to do this diagonal type with manual milling procedures. The tool looks awesome and i imagine it works so as well. Keep up the great work. Ondrej

Thank you Ondrej ;-)

Your story made me really happy...

 By: Mike H : July 13th, 2016-07:35
...because in this world of mondialization and large multinational groups, it is so good to know that there is still room for human being, timeless craftsmanship and beauty. Of course watchmaker students used to learn how to make their tools but I didn't ...

Thank you very much Mike for your kind word

I am really happy to learn watchmaking here in Geneva with people who are more than experts in their specific field but human too and very pedagogue. I already know that I will never be a watchmaker as I am too old and it takes between 5 and 6 years to ob...

Pretty nostalgic... :)

Very Nice.

I made mine from thick knitting needles (sorry, mum ). Just a file and some wet-and-dry sandpaper of diminishing grades. Then a polish. These levers are so much better than the lifting tools. You can feel the resistance from the hands much more effectivel...

Thank you

Yes, it is always better when you can do it by yourself ;-) Best wishes Alkiro

Great knurling and finish on the lever tips!

I also made a pair of hand levers when I was in watchmaking school (it must be a popular project for students!). I actually preferred my levers to the Bergeon ones, but sadly they broke. Seeing your pictures makes me want to make a new pair, haha.

Many thanks

Well, you should do a new pair. It is so rewarding ;-) Best wishes Alkiro

But, you know, I am just a first year student and it was an exercise so I won\'t do tools like this one anymore :-( Best wishes Alkiro
