the N# 1 reason: I need a watch just because I like them. Always have, always will. Why? No idea. It's an emotional primary thing which needs no reasoning.
Now
When the virus gets lethal (expensive) reasons do come in to play for me.
- what model will fit the collection best. I like to have a diverse collection. Brand wise, Style wise, complication wise, colour wise, metal wise, dial wise, case wise, etc.
- In house manufacturing (really, we do not need to translate this word into French for it still means exactly the same)
- Finishing
- Timelessness (will the watch not be a short lived fling)
- Brand (if you dislike a brand one way or the other you will not buy it)
- Mechanical worthiness
- Price (alas)
The difficult thing however is evolution. The longer you spent time on watches, the more your taste and knowledge will develop. This a good (fun) and bad (will cost your kids part of their inheritance) thing. So apart from some basic motivations or reasons for buying a watch at that particular moment in time it will be an ongoing proces that will never stop. Unless the one really exists. But I do not believe in fairytales. Do you?
