You've nailed it...

Welcome here Curtis.

You are 100% correct: "The Sickness" (it comes in different shades to 'collectors', investors, acquirers, flippers, enthusiasts or 'nuts') is first and foremost definitely about acquiring - and hopefully wearing - what you like. Speaking now from long experience, you will not find anyone here looking down their noses at what you choose to collect: there is something for everyone.  Many here proudly have so-called less expensive watches in their collections: Swatch watches, G-Shock, quartz, mass-produced Chinese watches etc etc.  Many also have some of the most lauded watches on the planet. They may not all be to everybody's taste, but then what is?

Enjoy your time here: looking forward to reading more of you.  Here's a couple of pieces from the less expensive end of the watch collection to underscore the point, and to keep it going:

A rare complication smile :

This one is amazing bang for buck:

...whilst this one is a sentimental personal favourite:

Cheers,
pplater.

I'm looking at an Oris as my next purchase. I need tough watches for my career. I have also started to look at Shinola, and Lum Tec. There is a bronze combat B Lum Tec I really like.

Hi, welcome, and great question.

Since I am writing a series on collections, perhap I can address it. I think it's fair to say that collectors look down on THEIR OWN early efforts as naive, uninformed, etc, as much as they might feel the same about other "starter collections". I can't ju...

You won't find that here :-)

And welcome to this forum, BTW. I know what you mean, and I've experienced some of that personally on some other forums before I found this one some years back. It is a very welcoming place, and you can be a one watch person and still feel tremendously we...

You start one place and end up in another place. Along the way you meet different people with different tastes. Some you like some you like less. You get the chance to taste and explore along the the way. This forum is a great place to share the journey w...

As a young and fairly new collector myself, I feel I can relate! Just like finding the watches you "click" with, you'll find fellow watch enthusiasts who love how much you love the watch or the excitement in your eyes more than the brand stamped on the ph...
